The Childhood Friend is truly a relic of her time. Somewhere between Maburaho and Mahouka, the factories making these shows realized that having a girl already like the protagonist for who he is makes it infinitely harder for the audience to relate to him, and raises a huge plot-ruining question: Why doesn't he just bang her already? The answer they eventually landed on is "because she's his sister", but it turns out that doesn't actually solve the dilemma for most of their audience. Upon discovering this, most of the humans in-charge killed themselves, leaving Light Novel-generating neural nets to run the factories. Those neural nets decided to just run with it, and now humanity is destined for extinction.
