Quotes / Humanity Is Insane

"You see, in our society, the phenomenon you call emotion is considered a mental disorder."

Any dolt with half a brain
Can see that humankind
has gone insane

[sees wanted posted of himself which reads "ALIENS"]
Luigi: "Aliens"? We gotta deal with aliens now, too?!
Mario: Luigi, we're the aliens.
Luigi: We are? Wow, cool.

"I come from earth. A planet of outlaws."
Peter "Star-Lord" Quill, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

You know, with our usual playmates, there's rules, there's patterns. But with people... there's just crazy.
Dean, Supernatural ("The Bender")

When I think now of all the lunatics I knew at Baryton's, I can't help suspecting that the only two manifestations of our innermost being are war and insanity, those two absolute nightmares.
Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Journey to the End of the Night

Learn well, Jakesully, then we will see if your insanity can be cured.
Mo'atnote , Avatar

This mind could argue with itself. This mind could see the same event in different ways. It was insanity! A democratic brain, arguing within itself, with no sure, certain control, only a sort of uneasy compromise. A consensus of disputatious elements.
This brain contained its own traitor!
And, as I began to sift the memories I saw, again and again, the internal argument. The "Should I? Should I not?" debates. The paralysis of internal disagreement.
But I also saw decisions improved as a result of uncertainty. Hesitation and internal discord leading to decisions that were wiser, more useful, than quicker decisions would have been.
And yet that seemed a small compensation for the internal treason and confusion and conflict.
No wonder they kill each other, I thought. They very nearly kill themselves!
It was madness. Humans, as a species, were mad.
Visser One, from Visser

It is… madness. They consume, they restore. They destroy, they create. They hate, they love. They die, they live. They kill… they save. If you think that it is simply the views of the Autobots or the Decepticons down there, then you are gravely mistaken; each one has its own agenda, its own needs… they are creatures of habit and creatures of necessity… and they will destroy whoever gets in their way. They are insane.

"Ladies and gentlemen! You've read about it in the newspapers! Now, shudder as you observe, before your very eyes, that most rare and tragic of nature's mistakes! I give you... The Average Man! Physically unremarkable, it has instead a deformed set of values. Notice the hideously bloated sense of humanity's importance. The club-footed social conscience and the withered optimism. It's certainly not for the squeamish, is it? Most repulsive of all, are its frail and useless notions of order and sanity. If too much weight is placed upon them... they snap. How does it live, I hear you ask? How does this poor, pathetic specimen survive in this harsh, irrational world? The sad answer is 'not very well'. Faced with the inescapable fact that human existence is mad, random, and pointless, one in eight of them crack up and go stark slavering buggo! Who can blame them? In a world as psychotic as this... any other response would be crazy!"

"You Hummings are crazy!"
One Catchphrase of Geezy the Pegulount, Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers

We outnumbered them 1,000 to 1, and they kept shooting at us. We offered them quarter, and they kept shooting at us. We backed away, and they kept shooting at us. We tried to embark into our transports to leave them be, and they kept shooting at us. They forced us to kill them. These gue'la are insane.
— Shas'O Bupo Jun'ka, Warhammer 40,000

klingons: okay we don’t get it
vulcan science academy: get what
klingons: you vulcans are a bunch of stuffy prisses but you’re also tougher, stronger, and smarter than humans in every single way
klingons: why do you let them run your federation
vulcan science academy: look
vulcan science academy: this is a species where if you give them two warp cores they don’t do experiments on one and save the other for if the first one blows up
vulcan science academy: this is a species where if you give them two warp cores, they will ask for a third one, immediately plug all three into each other, punch a hole into an alternate universe where humans subscribe to an even more destructive ideological system, fight everyone in it because they’re offended by that, steal their warp cores, plug those together, punch their way back here, then try to turn a nearby sun into a torus because that was what their initial scientific experiment was for and they didn’t want to waste a trip.
vulcan science academy: they did that last week. we have the write-up right here. it’s getting published in about six hundred scientific journals across two hundred different disciplines because of how many established theories their ridiculous little expedition has just called into question. also, they did turn that sun into a torus, and no one actually knows how.
vulcan science academy: this is why we let them do whatever the hell they want.
klingons: …. can we be a part of your federation
