Gary: Right now you are down and out,
And feelin' really crappy...

Nicky: I'll say.
Gary: But when I see how sad you are,
It sorta makes me... happy!

Nothin' I can do;
It's schadenfreude,
Makin' me feel glad that I'm not you!

Samerina Volcuzas: The bitch spat on me okay! She didn't know her place! So I showed her where it is. Under my boot. Though to be honest, I think she just stained these boots of mine. Now I must buy another pair of boots again. Can you imagine how much it cost me to buy these things?

Richard III is William Shakespeare's first great comedy. Okay, I know that it gets listed as a tragedy. But, y'see, a tragedy is where a lot of people get killed, and you feel sorry for some of them. In Richard III, a lot of people get killed, and you don't feel sorry for any of them.

"Whenever someone gets run over, I giggle. Does that make me a bad person?"

How do y'all do it?
I've been telling you guys, terribly sad things this whole song
You haven't been sad at all
You've been happy, no, You've been laughing
That's it, laughter, it's the key to everything
It's the way to solve all the sadness in the world
I mean, not for the people that are actually sad
But for the people like us, that gotta fucking deal with 'em all the time
Being a comedian isn't being an insensitive prick
Capitalizing on the most animalistic impulses of the public, it's being a hero!
The world isn't sad
The world's funny! I get it now I'm a sociopath!

There's an old Earth word. It's called schadenfreude - the feeling of elation that comes from learning of the suffering of others. Like when you hear that a rival newsman was caught cursing in front of a live mike, or that a particularly corrupt alderman just stepped in front of a garbage truck. It's elation accompanied by that twinge of guilt for feeling so good, and the quiet, fervent prayer that something that bad never happens to you.
Michael Liberty, Liberty's Crusade.

"I absolutely believe that jokes should always be at someone's expense."

"Go on, laugh! But you won't be laughing when you're crushed by a giant meteor. That's only funny when it happens to someone else! Comedy 101 people!"

Lisa: It's a German term for shameful joy; taking pleasure in the suffering of others.
Homer: Oh, come on, Lisa. I'm just glad to see [Flanders] fall flat on his butt! He's usually all happy and comfortable and surrounded by loved ones. And it makes me feel...! What's the opposite of that shameful joy thing of yours?
Lisa: Sour grapes.
Homer: Boy, those Germans have a word for everything.

Leonard: No.
Sheldon: So it comes and goes?
Leonard: How do you not care what people think of you?
Sheldon: It's easy. I mean, not beating you at chess easy, but what is?
Leonard: Wait. You can make this decision. You don't care if you upset people, you can pick for me.
Sheldon: I certainly could.
Leonard: Oh, great.
Sheldon: But I won't. I think this is a learning opportunity for you.
Leonard: Oh Sheldon, c'mon.

Leonard: Yes!
Sheldon: Ask me how I feel about that.
