He looked deeply into those sapphire eyes, and opened his heart. And Kantor stepped gracefully into it, and filled it, and until that moment, he had no notion how empty it had been, nor how lonely he had been. […] No matter what happened, in the next moment, or moon, or year, or lifetime- he and Kantor would never be alone or lonely again.

This… This was the consequence of having such strong magic and little to no anchor. Her parents didn’t count. Alya didn’t count. They had been little more than buoys in a riptide, not the boat she needed. Not the shore she had to have. Magic had to be grounded in a stable way. A Familiar was the safest, most straightforward way to obtain stability. A witch without a bond was… well, insanity was the nicest thing one could expect.

Angelus: What makes you worthy of a pact with me?
Caim: Worthy or not, I wish to live. Despise me if you will, but I shall not die! Your answer! A pact, or death!

Tycho: (about Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance) You can summon your magical panther from the Astral Plane?
Gabe: Is that worth forty bucks to you?

"Well, milady. What do you think of the Sunchaser now? Do you see any changes?" She shot Ari a glance full of understanding. "So, then."

He snorted and bent his great head. She felt his breath in her hair, and flung her arms around his neck. "No," Ari said. "No changes." She kept her head hidden, so they couldn't see the tears. "He's just the same, inside."

Notun: I could lock you away again. Or even have you thrown overboard.
Kaladin: Yeah? And what would that do to Syl? She told me that losing a bonded Radiant is hard on their spren.
Notun: True. But she would recover, and it might be for the best. Your relationship with the Ancient Daughter is... inappropriate.
Kaladin: It's not like we eloped.
Notun: It is worse, as the Nahel bond is far more intimate a relationship. The linking of spirits. This is not a thing which should be done lightly, unsupervised.
