The Emperor Of Mankind: Okay, remember the Age of Strife?
"Kitten": Aren't you referring to the Age of Apostacy, sir?
The Emperor Of Mankind: No. The Age of Strife. Let me tell you... it was when Asshole Psykers first started appearing, and all of Asshole Mankind started fighting each-other over Asshole reasons. That is when I first emerged. I destroyed all Asshole Religions that existed on Terra. Do you want to know why?
"Kitten": Because you are the One True God, My Lord.
The Emperor Of Mankind: Wrong. It is because Religion is stupid superstitious brainwashing crap that makes you into an Asshole. This is why I specifically said when designing The Imperial Truth: that Equality, Science, and Galaxy Conquest is the way to go, and Religion needs to be thrown out a window.

[Planet name] was a Holy World.
You do not know the true extent of your sin.
Not yet.
Holy Guardians/Doctrinal Enforcers, Stellaris

In 1999, the Dimension Anomaly fucked us. Hard. No one was spared — it fucked each and every one of us, on all sides of the Ascension Squabble. On that day, what it meant to be a Void Engineer changed.
Woe to those who fuck with us, for we didn't exactly change for the better.
Mage: The Ascension — Convention Book: Void Engineers (Revised)

The God-Machine is slow to react, but implacable when roused.

It's a beautiful day outside
Birds are singing, flowers are blooming.
On days like these, kids like you
...
Should be burning in hell.

"Look. I gave up trying to go back a long time ago. And getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either. Cause even if we do... We'll just end up back here without any memory of it, right? To be blunt... It makes it kind of hard to give it my all. ...Or is that just a poor excuse for being lazy...? Hell if I know. All I know is... Seeing what comes next... I can't afford not to care anymore."
Sans, Undertale

Viggo: John is a man of focus, commitment, sheer will... something you know very little about. I once saw him kill three men in a bar... with a pencil. With a fucking... pencil. Then suddenly one day he asked to leave. It's over a woman, of course. So I made a deal with him. I gave him an impossible task. A job no one could have pulled off. The bodies he buried that day laid the foundation of what we are now. And then my son, a few days after his wife died, you steal his car, and kill his fucking dog.
Iosef: Father, I can make this right.
Viggo: Oh? How do you plan that?
Iosef: By finishing what I started.
Viggo: What the... did he hear a fuckin' word I said?
Iosef: [Russian] Dad, I can do this! Please!
Viggo: Iosef, Iosef! Listen! Huh? John will come for you, and you will do nothing, because you can do nothing. So get the fuck out of my sight!

When Helen died, I lost everything...until that dog arrived on my doorstep, a final gift from my wife. In that moment, I received some semblance of hope...an opportunity to grieve unalone...and your son took that from me, stole that from me, killed that from me! People keep asking if I'm back, and I haven't really had an answer...but now, yeah! I'm thinking I'm back! So you can either hand over your son, OR YOU CAN DIE SCREAMING ALONGSIDE HIM!!
John Wick to Viggo Tarasov, John Wick

But now his [Treebeard's] long slow wrath is brimming over, and all the forest is filled with it. The coming of the hobbits and the tidings that they brought have spilled it: it will soon be running like a flood; but its tide is turned against Saruman and the axes of Isengard. A thing is about to happen which has not happened since the Elder Days: the Ents are going to wake up and find that they are strong.
Gandalf, The Two Towers

"It's all down to you, little brother. I fear we have awoken a sleeping giant."
"You mean the latent military-industrial strength of America?"
"No, I mean that bloody lizard!"

Should hostilities once break out between Japan and the United States, it would not be enough that we take Guam and the Philippines, nor even Hawaii and San Francisco. To make victory certain, we would have to march into Washington and dictate the terms of peace in the White House. I wonder if our politicians have confidence as to the final outcome and are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices.
Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, writing to a Japanese ultranationalist

Razen: Now, please excuse me. So long as we live, we may meet again on the battlefield.
Hakurou: That will not happen. Our ruler is making his way towards that very battlefield. You people have gone too far. You angered the one person whose rage you should fear the most. You have my sympathy. Your death will not be painless.

But should you carelessly aggress,
Seek to plunder and oppress,
Expecting nothing in redress,
Declare your cause divine,

Bring fusillade and ship broadside,
Bring murder, slaughter, genocide,
Mistake our race for one untried,
And we respond in kind.

And when your gates are stoven in,
Your armies dust upon the wind,
Your death shall educate your kin
That we respond in kind.

"I had intended to deal a fatal blow to the American fleet by attacking Pearl Harbor immediately after Japan's official declaration of war. But according to the American radio, Pearl Harbor was attacked 55 minutes before our ultimatum was delivered in Washington. I cannot imagine anything that will infuriate the Americans more. I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Tora! Tora! Tora!

But [the United States] still haven't joined the war. War looks bad on TV, and the United States is really starting to care about their image. But then Japan spits on them in Hawaii, and challenges them to war. They say yes. And then Germany, as a symbol of friendship, declares war on the United States also. So the United States goes to war in Europe, and they help the gang chase Germany back into Germany, and they also start chasing Japan back into Japan.
