H is for History Lecture
Inevitably during the course of the Alternate History, someone (often a historian, but not uncommonly a randomly encountered stranger) will deliver a History Lecture (or write a controversial novel, Ideological (q.v.) screed, or textbook) centering coincidentally on the history of the world since the Change Point (q.v.), or even meditating on the topic of alternate history. Quite often, the thesis of the Lecture will be that the world would be much better (or worse) had the Change Point gone the other, i.e., our, way. The inhabitants of the Alternate History will mostly consider this Lecture a risible waste of time, like they're ones to talk.
