My name is Dr. John Watson, once of the British Army Northumberland Fusilier Regiment, now a true crime podcaster based in Central London. I don't have much experience in criminology, so this is mostly a record of how I met possibly the most brilliant and bizarre person I have ever (and will ever) know. Join me as I document the adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
— Dr. John Watson

Sherlock & Co. is a weekly in-universe true crime podcast based on the exploits of Sherlock Holmes, produced and distributed by Goalhanger Podcasts. Set in modern day London, it follows Dr. John Watson (Paul Waggott), a former soldier of British Army, as a podcaster who records his adventures with Sherlock Holmes (Harry Attwell). It also stars Marta Da Silva as Mariana Ametxazurra.

The podcast adapts the original short stories, with every story being released as its own story arc, which are divided in a handful of episodes. As part of its Setting Update, it incorporates also the latest technology and science, such as the internet, social media and modern forensics.

The first episode was released in November 2023 and with follow-up episodes being released every Tuesday. Official page

The Podcast contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change:
    • Dr. John Watson is now a assistant surgeon from a foreign legion unit who was hit near the Antonovsky bridge in Kherson, Ukraine during the Russian invasion of Ukraine to bring it in-line with recent history. He was also stationed in Afghanistan at some point prior.
    • In the original stories, Mrs. Hudson's backstory was virtually non-existent, here she was a real estate agent for a company called Hudson prior to her co-owning the detective agency with Sherlock and Holmes.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Mrs. Hudson has her named changed to Mariana Ametxazurra due to her background being a Spanish immigrant.

  • Ascended Extra: Like various adaptations before it, Hudson is turned into a regular cast member and is basically the tritagonist of the show, even going along on some cases.
  • Autism in Media: Sherlock has discussed having to learn to how to communicate like a "neurotypical", indicating that he somewhere on the spectrum. In the first episode he tells John the DSM may qualify him as having ADHD and ASD (along with quite a few other things).
  • In-Series Nickname: Sherlock tends to call Mariana "Mrs. Hudson".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As much as Sherlock can be insensitive asshole, he genuinely wants to solve cases and bring peace to his clients.
  • Literal-Minded: Sherlock has a tendency to take things literally, especially when Watson is cracking jokes.
  • Police Are Useless: the officers of Scotland Yard are generally not very helpful in solving cases.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Sherlock regular misses references to pop culture to much chagrin of Watson.
  • Setting Update: Instead of taking place in the early 20th century, the stories are moved to a contemporary settting with everything that comes with it.
