Basic Trope: Zombies attack humans by throwing up on them.

  • Straight: Alice the zombie throws up on Bob the human.
  • Exaggerated: Alice somehow produces enough vomit to throw up on a whole crowd of humans.
  • Downplayed: Alice throws up on the floor and a bit of it hits Bob's shoe.
  • Justified:
    • Vomiting is just part of certain viral infections, as anyone who's had the 'flu can attest. They're not actually trying to puke on people, just throwing up because they're sick and people happen to be close by. Their plague-ridden, corrosive spew is an effective weapon all the same.
    • The zombies are of the Puppeteer Parasite variety, and the vomit contains eggs or larvae that immediately infest whoever got slimed, thanks to the chemical action of the gastric acid degrading their skin/protective gear.
  • Inverted: Bob was feeling nauseous for whatever reason, so he exploits this by throwing up on Alice the zombie.
  • Subverted: Alice tries to throw up on Bob but she can't.
  • Double Subverted: Bob is subsequently thrown up on by another zombie, Charles.
  • Parodied: Bob is so grossed out that Alice puked on him that he throws up too.
  • Zigzagged:
  • Averted: Alice does not throw up on Bob.
    • There are no zombies.
  • Enforced: "We need to give these zombies ranged attacks to make them more of a threat, but they're too dumb to use weapons. Let's just have them puke on the humans."
  • Lampshaded: "Urgh, seeing anyone throw up is gross, but a zombie!?"
  • Invoked:
  • Exploited: Bob is a scientist and does a lab analysis on the zombie vomit.
  • Defied:
  • Discussed: "What if she, like, throws up on me or something?"
  • Conversed: "Zombies in fiction have two main attacks — biting and puking."
  • Implied: Alice is heard retching and Bob is then seen Covered in Gunge.
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs: After seeing Alice throw up on Bob, his friend Darren is worried that something serious like death or zombification is going to happen to Bob, but then...
Darren: (nervous) "Bob! Bob! Are you all right?!"
Bob: (disgusted and unamused) "I'm gonna have some explaining to do to my drycleaner!"
    Darren: (chuckles) "He's all right!"
  • Played for Drama: Bob ends up needing urgent medical attention as the result of Alice's attack.
  • Played for Horror: While the puke doesn't look like it's doing much damage, it carries a large infectious viral load.
