Basic Trope: The character is opposed to the traditions of their family, clan, or organization.
- Straight: Bob belongs to a long line of assassins. He does not want to be one despite his parents' protest.
- Exaggerated: Bob doesn't want to be an assassin because he hates having to hide the corpse of his target.
- Downplayed: Bob isn't exactly opposed to being an assassin, but he'd rather keep a low profile.

- Inverted: Bob does enjoy his life as an assassin.
- Bob's parents want him to grow up a normal life without having blood in his hands.
- Subverted: Bob didn't like being an assassin, but he can't stop.
- Parodied: Bob hates being an assassin because he wants to be a clown, which means less bodycount.
- Zig Zagged: Bob dislikes being an assassin, but because of his skills, he decides to put his skills to good use.
- Averted: Bob loves being an assassin.
- Enforced: Bob's family and clan has no limits who they kill.
- Lampshaded: "Why does my family insists I should continue killing when I just don't want to?"
- Invoked: "If I keep myself off radar, I won't kill another person ever again".
