Basic Trope: Animals that live in the forest.

  • Straight: A deer, some rabbits and a flock of birds accompany Alice on her walk through the woods.
  • Exaggerated: The animals themselves are the stars of the story.
  • Downplayed: Rather than living in a forest, the animals live in Alice's backyard or a small park.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Animals live in the city and humans live in the forest.
  • Subverted: The animals turn out to be people in suits.
  • Double Subverted: The people actually turn into animals by nightfall.
  • Parodied: A group of animals follow Alice...and then start attacking her.
  • Zig Zagged:
    • The story may switch between starring the people or the animals living in the woods outside town.
    • Some of the animals are typically associated with the forest, with a few exotic ones like monkeys and parrots thrown in.
  • Averted:
    • No animals appear in the story.
    • Farm animals appear instead.
  • Enforced:
    • Animals were added into the story to appeal more to children.
    • Woodland creatures are a common story book theme.
  • Lampshaded: "If you're going to give your story a forest theme, add a few bunnies or squirrels in there too."
  • Invoked: Alice always carries extra food with her in case some hungry animals follow her during her walks through the forest.
  • Exploited: Being surrounded by forest animals benefits Alice as a wildlife photographer.
  • Implied: There may be animals in the woods, but Alice is too afraid to venture there.
  • Defied: The author decided that the concept of woodland creatures was overdone, so the story became about sea creatures instead.
  • Discussed: "I sure hope no animals come and ruin this camping trip."
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played For Laughs: Alice's camping trip in the woods is continously interrupted by animals that keep stealing her supplies.
  • Played For Drama:
    • Alice dies tragically in the woods and a group of animals circles around and starts mourning her.
    • A group of animals leads Alice to one of their own caught in a trap, so she decides to help it out and nurse it back to health.
  • Played For Horror: Alice is chased by bears, wolves or other ferocious animals that want her out of the woods.
