Basic Trope: Werewolves with wolf-themed (and sometimes moon-themed) names.

  • Straight: Wolfgang is a werewolf.
  • Exaggerated:
    • All of the werewolves have wolf-themed/moon-themed names.
    • Wolfgang's full name is Wolfgang Fenrir Lupus-Romulus.
  • Downplayed:
    • Same idea, but with a different werebeast instead of a werewolf. For instance, a were-owl named Naschanote , or a were-lion named Leo.
    • A name that is alliterative with wolf, such as Walter.
    • The name is not actually connected with wolves or the moon, but with other well-known fictional werewolves, such as a werewolf named Lawrencenote .
  • Justified:
    • Wolfgang is a werewolf by his heritage.
    • Wolfgang's name happens to be a Prophetic Name.
    • Simply put, Wolfgang is just a name and he just happened to become a werewolf at some point in his life.
    • Wolfgang changed his name after turning into a werewolf.
  • Inverted:
    • A werewolf is named Silver.note
    • A werebeast has a name based on whatever species they are when not in werebeast form.
  • Subverted:
    • Wolfgang reveals he's really not a werewolf after all; he's just thought to be one because he's hairy, sometimes acts like a wolf, and usually goes missing on full moons.
    • Wolfgang is a werewolf... but it's not his real name.
    • Wolfgang isn't actually a werewolf. He's a were-crocodile.
  • Double Subverted:
    • He was lying.
    • He becomes a werewolf at some other point.
    • He changed his name.
    • Wolfgang is a shapeshifter that also happens to be a werewolf; his form as a crocodile was just one of the forms he could use.
  • Parodied:
    • Bob is bitten by a werewolf, and the first thing he does is legally change his name to Wolfgang Fenrir Lupus-Romulus because "that's what werewolves do".
    • Wolfgang tries to live up to his name by turning himself into a werewolf. He gets a werewolf to bite him... and ends up turning into a were-coyote instead, much to his chagrin.
  • Zig-Zagged: Sometimes werewolves have themed names, and sometimes they don't.
  • Averted: Werewolves are not given any specifically themed names.
  • Enforced: To establish early on that Wolfgang is a werewolf.
  • Lampshaded: "See, you can tell he's a werewolf because his name is Wolfgang."
  • Invoked:
    • Wolfgang is a werewolf by heritage. His parents named him accordingly.
    • Wolfgang changes his name after becoming a werewolf.
    • Wolfgang tries to live up to his name by turning himself into a werewolf somehow.
  • Exploited: Because of his name, characters can easily tell that Wolfgang is a werewolf and act accordingly.
  • Defied: The werewolf is named Andy. He decides that he will not rename himself.
  • Discussed: "Does every werewolf have a name like Wolfgang Fenrir Lupus-Romulus, or is that just you?"
  • Conversed: "I wonder why so many werewolves have wolf-themed or moon-themed names in fiction. Is it like they knew they were gonna be werewolves or something?"
  • Implied:
    • Whether or not Wolfgang actually is a werewolf is unknown, but he certainly acts like one.
    • Wolfgang is The Ghost, but characters do mention that he is a werewolf.
