Basic Trope: A character's wedding is unceremoniously interrupted by the narrative.
- Straight: Alice and Bob's wedding is ruined when Alice's nephews drive a golf cart over the catering and into the pool.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice has retired from an evil syndicate and settled down with Bob. Her former boss shows up with his goons and shoot the place up.
- Bob says "I do", and just as they're about to kiss, Bob has a heart attack and instantly dies.
- Downplayed:
- Alice and Bob's wedding gets some unexpected delays and is lightly rained on. They manage to save the wedding cake and exchange vows indoors.
- Bob is severely injured in a car accident on the day before the wedding, so it has to be delayed, much to everyone's chagrin.
- Justified: Alice only knew Bob for a month and a half and he clearly doesn't care about her as a person. Her parents raise objections at the wedding.
- Inverted: Alice and Bob have an impromptu wedding that interrupts a raging battle. The captain of the ship delivers the ceremony. Alongside the battle.
- Subverted: Alice and Bob are getting married and out of nowhere pirates appear. They wish Alice and Bob a happy marriage.
- Double Subverted: They also give her an exploding pie.
- Parodied: The wedding photo is photo-bombed by a raccoon. Alice acts like the entire wedding is ruined.
- Defied: The partygoers are armed to the teeth and organized like an army willing to blast anything or anybody trying to ruin the party. At least half of them may also be ready in case the groom is the one who tries to ruin it.
