Basic Trope: A weapon that is more damaging against certain types of enemies.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia, the Cleric's Sword deals double damage to undead, but is underpowered for its level otherwise.
  • Exaggerated: The Slayer's Sword is next to useless against normal enemies, but causes an automatic One-Hit Kill against any undead, including bosses.
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • The Slayer's Sword, otherwise a great weapon against most enemy types, deals only half damage to the undead.
    • The Necromancer's Scythe inflicts One-Hit Kill onto virtually everything but undeads, it heals them instead.
    • The Savior's Shield doubles your defense against undead enemies.
  • Subverted: The Flavor Text on the Sword says something about it being used to defeat an undead army, but it doesn't behave any differently than normal when used against undead...
  • Double Subverted: ... but there is a skill that can only be used with it equipped that makes it more powerful.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: The Sword has a chance to deal extra damage to undead, or deal less damage, or inflict a random status effect(Which may be positive or negative).
  • Averted: the Sword isn't any more effective against undead than any other enemies.
  • Enforced: Making them specialized makes it easier to make weapons more worth going out of one's way to get, without making any of them a Game-Breaker.
  • Lampshaded: "Why is everyone creating sword only useful against one stuff?"
  • Invoked: The Sword can be enchanted to be more effective against undead.
  • Exploited:
    • Most players only ever use the sword on undead.
  • Defied:
    • Most players don't use the Sword because other tactics are even more effective.
    • The sword is indeed useful against undead, except there is no undead in the entire game.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
