Basic Trope: A character wakes up saying a nonsensical line.
- Straight: Alice and Bob are on an adventure and go to sleep for the night in the forest. When Alice wakes up in the morning, she wakes Bob up by shouting, "WHERE'S ANASTASIA???!!!", despite the fact that she doesn't know an Anastasia.
- Exaggerated:
- Both Alice and Bob talk nonsense when they wake up.
- Alice always says a Non Sequitur when she first wakes up.
- Downplayed: Alice says, "I wonder if you can put tomato ketchup on sushi" when she wakes up, which, despite sounding weird, is a legitimate thing to wonder.
- Justified: Alice was having a dream in which she does know an Anastasia.
- Inverted:
- Alice is usually a Walking Non Sequitur but when she wakes up in the morning, she says "Good morning", which makes sense.
- Non Sequitur, *Thud*: Alice gets hit in the head or is otherwise about to fall unconscious, and suddenly exclaims something weird like "Can I paint your nipples green?"
- Subverted: It's revealed that Alice does know an Anastasia.
- Double Subverted: But in waking life, Alice knows exactly where Anastasia is.
- Parodied: Alice is Not a Morning Person and because it takes her a while to wake up, it takes her an equal amount of time to make sense.
- Zigzagged: Alice, within the first ten minutes of waking up, yammers on with some nonsensical and some normal sentences.
- Averted: Alice doesn't say anything weird when she wakes up.

- Lampshaded: "Anastasia? You don't know an Anastasia, you're so weird in the morning"
- Invoked: Claire puts a zany sort of curse on Alice which means she'll make no sense in the morning.
- Exploited: As soon as she wakes up, Alice exclaims exactly where Anastasia is, which proves useful to Bob.
