Basic Trope: An antagonist shows a protagonist or another antagonist approval.
- Straight: In Tales of Troperia: The Ballad of Claidheamh, Claidheamh is well regarded for his fighting skill by Emperor Evulz.
- Exaggerated: Claidheamh is such a badass that even T'Veah Tir'opius and Goddess Troperia admire his badassery.
- Downplayed: Evulz sees Claidheamh as a powerhouse that at least deserves some recognition, but still considers him as low as the rest of humanity.
- Justified: Claidheamh just showed why he deserves respect, be it taking down all of Evulz' men, including the high ranking ones in The War Sequence, or by withstanding the most devastating attacks Evulz can throw at him.
- Inverted:
- Evulz is utterly disgusted with how Claidheamh is such a Dirty Coward.
- Evulz is utterly disgusted with how Claidheamh is so furiously resistant.
- Subverted: Evulz appears to be complimenting Claidheamh's power, but it appears that he was just flattering the young brute...
- Double Subverted: ...Though he does commend him with genuine respect for the sheer badassery the boy brings.
- Parodied: Claidheamh impresses Evulz by... managing to play all an epic ballad that consists of every famous rock and metal band's albums, finally ending it with a freestyle, 10 hour long Free Bird Solo, all on bagpipes. Everyone present, from The Rival of Claidheamh, Sir Robert, to even T'Veah Tir'opius, are all wowed at just how good Claidheamh is with the bagpipes, and even more so that he could do it for so long.Evulz: My goodness, young lad! Your skill with the bagpipes is commendable, but the strength of your lungs proves to be beyond legendary!Sir Robert: That's the one thing I'm afraid I may never triumph over you, Claidheamh. I have no choice but to respect your skill with the bagpipes.Troperia: Oh, how I swoon for you! Your excellence with such a usually ear-grating instrument will never fail to impress me!T'Veah Tir'Opius: (incoherent but proud, respectful, and admiring gargling)
- Zig-Zagged: Some qualities of Claidheamh, Evulz admires. Others... Not so much.
- Averted: Evulz doesn't respect Claidheamh. At all. But neither does he actually loathe the boy's guts, he just thinks Claidheamh is another obstacle.
- Enforced: The Developer wants to show how badass Claidheamh is by having even Evulz respect him. Also, it's basic Character Shilling but to an even greater extent due to it being from someone who you wouldn't expect to partake in Character Shilling.
- Lampshaded: "Did that guy just... IMPRESS Evulz!?"
- Invoked: Evulz decides that he must understand why so many people like Claidheamh, so he deliberately tries to make himself like Claidheamh.
- Exploited: Claidheamh appeals to Evulz's pragmatism by arguing that Claidheamh will probably win, so Evulz might as well switch teams.
- Defied:
- Evulz is frank with Claidheamh, but the latter's having none of it:
Evulz: Look, Claidheamh, I don't actually care about you, nor do I respect you. All I want to do is kill you, so... Come, now!
Claidheamh: I couldn't give any less of a flyin' fuck about yer respect. So shut up, AN' FIGHT!!! - Discussed: "No way! Claidheamh has actually garnered the RESPECT of Evulz!"
- Conversed: "I can't believe that he managed to win over even the villain here."
- Deconstructed: Evulz respects Claidheamh, but Claidheamh is such an arrogant brute who never reciprocates that Evulz can't help but utterly loathe the boy.
- Reconstructed: Evulz finds himself in awe of Claidheamh's sheer audacity, returning him to respect.
- Played for Laughs: Evulz starts shouting compliments at Claidheamh in the heat of battle, confusing the hero.
- Played for Drama: Claidheamh is shaken by the thought that Evulz respects him, and it makes him question if he's truly a good man.
- Implied: Claidheamh shoots Evulz down with a defiant and stone cold Kubrick Death Glare. The Emperor simply nods and smiles at the boy. Whether this is to mock the boy or out of genuine respect is up to interpretation.
- Played for Horror: Evulz respects Claidheamh... For essentially eradicating an entire continent by himself. This shakes Claidheamh to the bone, and he promptly goes into a state of My God, What Have I Done?-induced Heroic BSoD.
