Playing With / Unwillingly Girly Tomboy

Go To

Basic Trope: A Tomboy who reluctantly acts or dresses feminine, or acts and dresses feminine.

  • Straight: Alex, a Tomboy, is forced to wear a frilly pink dress by her friend Betty. Needless to say, Alex hates doing so.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Alex is forced to wear a pink dress. Even though she dislikes it, she doesn't express it that much.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • Betty, who is a Girly Girl, is forced to do masculine activities such as playing sports by Alex. Betty then reluctantly does so but not without complaining every step of the way.
    • and Gender Inverted: Danny, a Manly Man, is forced to do feminine activities such as doing manicures and knitting by Charles. Danny simply states that this is gonna suck.
  • Gender Inverted: Charles, a Sensitive Guy, is forced to act masculine such as bodybuilding by Danny, a Manly Man. Charles hates it.
  • Subverted: Alex is supposed to detest that frilly pink dress she is forced to wear but she actually likes it as she is a Tomboy with a Girly Streak.
  • Double Subverted: But then it turns out that Alex is just pretending the whole time. She geniunely hates the pink dress.
  • Parodied: Alex is forced to do a lot of feminine things and wear pink and feminine clothing and make-up. When she is forced to do so, she starts to destroy the pink clothing she is supposed to wear, rant about femininity and views femininity as a weakness as she stated that doing them makes her a weakling.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alex is forced to be feminine and sometimes she involuntarily does so. Other times, she does it at her own will.
  • Averted:
    • Alex is not a Tomboy.
    • Alex is not forced to be feminine.
  • Defied: Alex, despite being a Tomboy, decides to act feminine at her own will.
  • Enforced: "How about we create a tomboyish character who despises girly things?"
  • Lampshaded: "Ew, why the fuck am I supposed to wear this frilly pink dress? I hate it!"
  • Discussed: "Can we talk about how Alex wears that pink dress with a frown on her face and constantly angrily rant about it?"
  • Conversed: "I don't get it. Why are there so many tomboys who hate girly things like dresses, pink and more?!"
  • Invoked: "Let's make Alex do some feminine and girly stuff for the day. I just hope that she doesn't hate it, though."
  • Exploited: ???
  • Implied: Alex is forced to act feminine and wear a pink dress. While she doesn't explicitly expresses any negative emotions, she starts to wear a frown at her face.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alex despises acting girly. As a result, her friends and family start to criticize her for not being feminine.
    • Alex wouldn't object to girly things in and of themselves as she's a Tomboy with a Girly Streak — what aggravates her most is the lack of choice she has in the matter. Being forced unwillingly to do girly things just leads her to reject anything girly, even if it were things she would otherwise enjoy.
  • Reconstructed:
    • Only for them to think back again and accept Alex the way she is.
    • Alex's friends and family eventually understand Alex's feelings on the matter, though they still think Alex could stand to try more girly things. Alex isn't so insensitive as to dismiss them entirely as she doesn't subscribe to the notion that Real Women Never Wear Dresses. They eventually settle into Alex trying girly things while the others lay off on the social pressure, though that doesn't mean there aren't times when Alex finds herself in a given Girly activity that she doesn't like but doesn't want to dampen the mood with another outburst.
  • Played for Laughs: Alex stubbornly wears a pink dress, high heels and make-up. In addition, she cooks and does textile work. Needless to say, she starts to rant about it angrily but gets called out by Betty for ranting about it. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Played for Drama: Alex, who is naturally a Tomboy, is forced to act feminine by her mother and peers as she will be considered "undesirable" by other females due to her lack of femininity. As such, she grudgingly starts to act feminine at all costs.

I’ll just go back to Unwillingly Girly Tomboy and take off this stupid girly dress because I hate it so much!
