Basic Trope: Using a higher level character to help bring along a lower level character.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia: Online, Alice uses her level 50 character to easily defeat foes so that Bob's level 10 character can level up more quickly.
  • Exaggerated: Alice uses a level 100 character to help Bob's level 1 character.
  • Downplayed: Alice users her level 20 character to help Bob's level 15 character.
  • Justified: The game includes joinable factions in which members are encouraged to help each other out in this fashion to make the faction stronger overall.
  • Inverted: Alice uses a level 10 character alongside Bob's level 50 character as a form of Self-Imposed Challenge.
  • Subverted: Alice can help Bob, but since he isn't actually engaging in the fighting, he only gets a tiny portion of the experience...less than he would get by simply grinding against level-appropriate foes.
  • Double Subverted:
    • ...but since Alice can so effortlessly kill these weak foes, they can leave their characters to fight automatically while they're away, catching Bob up.
    • …but Alice only keeps the high level monsters at bay so that Bob can safely grind against the low level monsters in the area.
  • Averted: The game includes level limits in each area to prevent Alice from directly grinding with Bob.
  • Enforced: The game designers wanted to ensure that newbie players wouldn't be turned off by the game's challenge, so they allow higher level characters to come back and help them.
  • Lampshaded:
  • Exploited:
  • Defied: The developers make it so only the character that kills enemies gets experience.
  • Discussed:
  • Conversed:
  • Deconstructed: Since Bob's character was more or less up leveled by Alice, he doesn't actually know how to properly use his character and when he's paired up with someone at a matching level, he's become The Load.
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama: Bob is new to Tales of Troperia: Online and Alice decides to use her high-level character to help him level up so he can join her faction. Unfortunately, while Bob's character is at a high enough level to join Alice's faction, he doesn't actually have the skills to most effectively use his character. Thus, he ends up becoming the faction's load and quickly earns their ire. As a result, he stops playing Tales of Troperia: Online because of the abuse he's getting from the faction. Meanwhile, Alice gets spurned by her faction for bogging them down with Bob.
