Basic Trope: Tricking a shapeshifter who's your enemy into turning into a shape that means they can be easily defeated.
- Straight: Alice is dealing with Bob, an evil shapeshifter. She tells him to turn into a jellybean. He does. Alice then eats him.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice is dealing with a whole lot of shapeshifters and has them all turn into jellybeans. She eats half and puts the rest in the freezer.
- Every time Alice encounters a shapeshifter, she dares them to turn into something new that she can easily defeat; Jellyfishes, Cockroaches, Turtles, Fleas... See started to make a list.
- Downplayed: Alice dares Bob to become a jellybean...while he succeeds, he's executed by the effort and his tired body is dragged to jail by Alice.
- Justified: Bob isn't very smart and just wants a chance to show off.
- Inverted: Alice brags that Bob couldn't kill her even if he could turn into a Tyrannosaurus Rex...So he does so, and then does so, immediately.
- Subverted:
- When Bob turns into a jellybean, Alice tries to eat him but he turns back.
- When Alice tells Bob to turn into a jellybean, he refuses.
- Double Subverted: Then she asks him to turn into a pebble. He does. She places him in a bottle and seals it.
- Parodied: Alice tricks Bob into turning into a jellybean and eats him, feeling triumphant about her victory. Carol then realizes, "Wait a minute... Alice, don't you like to swallow your jellybeans whole?" Alice gets a look of realization and horror upon her face, right before being splattered into Ludicrous Gibs as Bob turns into an elephant inside of her.
- Zigzagged: Alice asks Bob to turn into a jellybean. He refuses so she asks him to turn into a pebble and he does. She throws him in the river...only he turns into a fish and then back into himself...so she asks him to turn into bread...
- Alice asks Bob to turn into a Jelly-bean, and he does. He then proceeds to kick her ass...As a flying, angry jelly-bean!
- Averted:
- No Shapeshifting takes place.
- No shapeshifters get tricked.
- Enforced:
- Lampshaded: "Geez...not a very smart shapeshifter, eh?"
- Invoked: Charlie says "Just ask him to turn into food or something tiny or whatever. Works every time."
- Exploited: Well, Alice defeats Bob with it.
- Defied: Bob refuses to turn into a jellybean for Alice.
- Discussed: "And I had him turn into a jellybean and that was the end of that."
- Conversed: "That shapeshifter on TV was so easy to fool."
- Implied: Alice and Bob go off for a duel. The next scene, Bob is gone and Alice has a feather in a bottle. It is unknown, but strongly suggested, that the feather is Bob.
