Basic Trope: Anguished by forced haircut.
- Straight:
- Alex has his hair forcibly cut, and is deeply anguished by it.
- Flash Young is a feared gangster who's known for cutting the hair of his defeated opponents with a butterfly knife.
- Exaggerated:
- Alex has a singular strand of his hair cut off by a millimeter, which immediately drives him to suicide.
- An awful haircut is Flash's Calling Card; Anyone can identify a person who fucked around with Flash and found out simply by looking at their hair (it'll either be bald or be a Gag Haircut).
- Flash straight up burns his victims' hairs away with an improvised flamethrower.
- Downplayed:
- Alex is bummed out by having a terrible barber (who may or may not be Flash) screwing up and shaving back his hairline.
- Flash only cuts off the most important details of a character's hair.
- Flash damages a character's hair in some way other than cutting it, such as burning it with a hot iron or chemicals.
- Justified:
- Alex is a Long-Haired Pretty Boy, and he cares for his hair so much he wouldn't want anyone to touch it, let alone completely desecrate it.
- Flash shears the hair because he knows that it'll be the most offensive to his defeated opponents, and is a much less conspicuous method of making sure they never come back than literally offing them.
- If that piece of shrapnel had passed by just an inch further to the north, then Alex would have lost more than just his hair.
- Inverted:
- Alex has his hair forcibly grown long, and is deeply anguished by it.
- Flash Young doesn't cut hair, but instead uses some kind of rapid hair growth solution to completely screw up his defeated opponent's hair.
- Subverted:
- Alex is about to get his hair cut, but he breaks free in time.
- Flash looks to cut someone's hair, but he puts his butterfly knife away at the last second.
- Double Subverted:
- Alex's hair is swiftly cut by something else completely different.
- Flash pulls out a battery razor and instead shaves that someone's head.
- Parodied:
- Alex has a haircut, and everyone suddenly treats it as if he's been raped, consensual or not.
- Flash gains the nickname "Worst Barber Ever", and while it's treated In-Universe as a Red Baron, it sounds utterly hilarious and can be applied to any other terrible barber.
- Zig-Zagged:
- Alex appears to have his hair cut. But instead, it's tied into a bun. Then that bun is sheared. And then Alex has a hair growth solution. Then his hair catches on fire and burns off completely.
- Flash is about to pull out a knife... But puts it away at the last second, taking out a razor... Before pulling his opponents' pants down for some castration... But actually gives them a nice manscaping instead.
- Averted:
- Alex never has a haircut.
- Flash never cuts peoples' hair after beating them up.
- Hair doesn't exist and everyone's bald.
- Enforced:
- Alex needs an Important Haircut to show some Character Development, but he also needs a little more drama.
- Flash needs an Establishing Character Moment and a trait to paint him in a negative light.
- Lampshaded: "Oh god, why did it have to be my hair!?"
- Invoked:
- Alex's hair is pulled, and a blade is up against the pulled hair.
- Flash threatens a character that he'll cut their hair off, and ensures them he ain't bluffing.
- Exploited: Characters affected by this won't need to worry about their hair getting snagged on things anymore.
- Defied:
- Alex makes sure to use a solution that makes his hair as tough as leather.
- Flash doesn't cut people's hair, considering it too barbaric for even his liking.
- Discussed:
- "Poor Alex. I wouldn't let my hair get cut."
- "Be careful around Flash. He'll cut your hair off and make you parade around the streets while bald."
- Conversed:
- "Jesus christ, talk about something traumatic. Last episode, Alex got his hair cut."
- "What an asshole, that Flash. It seems to be a Running Gag where he cuts hair."
- Implied: People go around with bald heads or gag haircuts, talking shit about a guy named Flash. While he's practically never seen on camera, it's assumed he beat them up and soon cut their hair.
- Played for Laughs:
- Alex is given a Gag Haircut.
- Flash gives out Gag Haircuts.
- Played for Drama: Normally done as is.
- Played for Horror:
- Alex's hair is cut, all the way to the scalp.
- Flash scalps people. In the exact same way Native Americans did.
