Basic Trope: A person who mentally, psychologically or emotionally thinks that they don't belong to a human species or anything related to its current identity and wants to become something else.

  • Straight: They seriously want to change their current identity by any means just because they have interconnections to one or two different groups.
  • Exaggerated: ???
  • Downplayed: There are consequences of actually changing both a physical and biological appearance as a means of making their wish come true.
  • Justified:
    • Their hatred of their current identity was a result of emotional abuse from several people during their life time and eventually wishing they belonged to a different identity.
    • They were literally Raised by Wolves. While actually surprisingly functional they can't help but identify as a wolf and think of humans as fundamentally strange and unattractive compared to wolves.
  • Inverted: See Internalized Categorism.
  • Subverted: This person doesn't actually believe they wished to be in a different identity but liked its benefit with the current climate.
  • Double Subverted: This person doesn't literally believe in a new different identity but this developed over time with them starting to believe it.
  • Parodied: The person expresses their true desire to mentally and physically become... a toaster.
  • Zig Zagged: Their reason for why they keep wishing to be a different identity depends on their emotional state.
  • Averted: They are fine with their current identity without any mental/psychological problems.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded:
    • "I don't belong to this species and want to be that species for my beliefs."
    • "I'm mentally part-wolf and part human and I will return to the spirit planes."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
    "I don't think I'm a human. Spiritually, I feel like I'm a wolf, and-"
"No. You're a human. Take your meds".
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Heaven is a real place and it is shown that their heavenly bodies reflect who they are regardless of what they looked like in life. Everyone else is more or less identifiable (being younger, older, chromatic hair), but one person is missing and there is a dog among them during the reunion.
  • Played For Laughs: If it's from the outsider's point of view, they are pretty "funny" no matter what their "excuse" is.
  • Played For Drama: The person's inner psychological drama and hatred of humanity (or least a group) in general drives them to wish they are in a different species/group with extreme means.
  • Deconstructed: The person develops a desire with trying to act non-human to the point where it becomes an obsession that reveals itself in inappropriate situations. They are brought in for a mental evaluation.
