Basic Trope: A person acts scarily calm while furious or angry.

  • Straight: Alice is furious at Bob, but appears calm.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice's body language shows her fury, but she maintains The Slow Walk and wreaks vengeance in silence.
    • Alice is visibly seething and struggling with her anger, and it shows in her speech as well as her actions, but she forces herself to focus and retain her methodical nature.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Alice is very happy at Bob, but she appears furious.
  • Subverted: Alice tries to appear calm, but the pent-up anger went loose...
  • Double Subverted: ...but she was just taking some deep breaths.
  • Parodied: Slasher Smile
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • When people do things that enrage Alice, her reaction can range from anywhere from quiet calm to Unstoppable Rage.
    • Alice is not all there when she becomes utterly furious, switching between silently glaring at Bob and screaming hysterical rage.
  • Averted:
  • Enforced: The creator wanted to make Alice look more badass.
  • Lampshaded: "Erm, Alice? Mind not looking so...stoic? It REALLY looks weird when you sound like you want my skin as a jacket."
  • Invoked:
    • Alice decides to stay calm, knowing that an Unstoppable Rage will cause more problems than it fixes.
    • Alice is dealing with trolls seeking to push her past her Rage Breaking Point, so she responds in such a way that denies them what they're looking for.
  • Exploited: Alice having this kind of response lets her play the long game in regards to the people she's furious with. Anyone Genre Savvy enough to expect Unstoppable Rage or a Roaring Rampage of Revenge may be surprised when they hear that no, she's totally fine with it.That doesn't help them too much the following night, when she's calmly smothering them with a pillow for what they did.
  • Defied:
    • While this is Alice's natural manner of expressing anger, she has a power that can only be unleashed by her getting really, really angry. She constantly has to keep herself from staying too calm when she's fighting someone, for the sake of her powers.
    • Alice makes a point of telling everybody that when she's wearing a poker face, she's not angry (maybe annoyed at the most), and if she's ever angry, she makes it perfectly well known.
  • Discussed:
    • "You know, you appear unusually calm when you're angry with me."
    • "I thought she would be furious as hell but she seems rather rather calm so it's probably not a big deal after all." "Dude, that's worse than her going into an Unstoppable Rage!"
  • Conversed: "It's strange how Alice looks so calm, even when she's trying to crush your bones to dust." "It's still the best scene in the show."
  • Played For Laughs: Alice simply acts normally, and maybe a little bored or uninterested, with the only indication of how angry she really is being what she's saying.
  • Played For Drama: Alice is normally loud, brash and a motormouth. So when she seems completely serene, all of her friends/allies immediately back away from her.
  • Played For Horror: Alice massacres an entire building full of bad guys with an expression that reads more like "wiping dog shit from her shoe" in terms of calmness and casualness. She instantly develops a reputation as a sociopathic murder machine, and it's not really far off in terms of how she felt at that moment.
  • Deconstructed: Nobody really knows if they can trust Alice, because she looks to be all calm, even when she's pissed. It makes her difficult to predict, which is unnerving even for her allies.
  • Reconstructed: This goes away when she has "natural" responses around her friends... knowing that she's willing to show vulnerability around them makes the distinction between Tranquil Fury and just being genuinely calm much easier to notice.
