Basic Trope:A boss will kill you if you don't beat it within the time limit.
- Straight: In Tales of Troperia LXIX, Alice must defeat Tai M'Limit within five minutes, or she gets a game over.
- Exaggerated: The whole game is under a time limit, requiring you to beat it in under an hour and 30 minutes.
- Downplayed:
- If Tai M'Limit isn't beaten in five minutes, Alice only gets the second best ending.
- The battle becomes significantly harder after five minutes, whether Tai M'Limit Turns Red or summons his cavalry of Demonic Spiders, which means Players can perform a Self-Imposed Challenge by letting the limit run out without getting a complete game over.
- Tai M'Limit is a challenging boss, but his toughest attacks have a cooldown in a game that generally doesn't have them.
- Justified:
- There is a time bomb that will go off in five minutes, killing Alice.
- Tai M'Limit has casted an immortality spell on himself that requires five minutes to take effect. If he isn't killed within the allotted time, the spell will go into effect, resulting in a Hopeless Boss Fight.
- Inverted: Alice has to survive for five minutes to beat Tai M'Limit.
- Subverted: The boss is unwinnable, and the timer running out merely mails Alice's fission.
- Double Subverted: The true battle against Tai is under a time limit anyway.
- Parodied: Numbers appear in the sky, counting down to zero. When they reach zero, Alice disappears entirely.
- Zigzagged: Some of Tai's phases are timed, some aren't.
- Averted: Alice can take as long as she likes to defeat Tai.
- Enforced: "This boss is too easy, let's add an arbitrary timer!"
- Lampshaded: "A time limit to make a fight harder? Whoever made this fight is terrible at making things really difficult!"
- Invoked: Tai sets up a timed bomb to make the fight harder for Alice.
- Exploited: Tai stalls for time so that Alice is killed by the bomb.
- Defied:
- Alice takes out a defusal kit and defuses the bomb manually.
- Clay swoops in at the nick of time, runs Tai through with his trusty ancestral claymore, and takes Alice out of the scene with a Bridal Carry before the bomb can hurt both of them.
- Discussed: "He's alive?! Darn it! I knew I should have gone with the timed bomb!"
- Conversed: "How does having a time limit add anything to the game?"
- Deconstructed: Using a timed bomb in every fight makes Tai a terrible fighter when he has no access to it.
- Reconstructed: He makes sure to always carry one.
