Basic Trope: Twins have names that have a theme, such as rhyming, alliteration, etc.

  • Straight: There are twins named Lily and Billy.
  • Exaggerated:
    • There are twin girls Lily and Lilly.
    • There are octuplets named Lily, Billy, Willy, Milly, Jilly, Dilly, Hillie, and Tilly.
    • There are twins Lily and Billy. Their full names are Lily Danielle Roberts and Billy Daniel Roberts.
  • Downplayed: There are twins named Isaac and Albert. Both names of famous scientists, but not very matching.
  • Justified: Alice found out she was pregnant with a girl, and named her Lily, but didn't realise Lily would have a twin brother until the twins were born, so she hastily named him Billy.
  • Inverted: Alice and Bob have six kids: Lily, Billy, Willy, Jilly, and the twins Nadia and George.
  • Subverted: There are twins Lily and Billy. It turns out that only their grandma calls the boy "Billy". He's really called William and mostly goes by Will.
  • Double Subverted: There are twins Lily and Billy. It turns out that only their grandma calls the boy "Billy". He's really called William and mostly goes by Will. However, they form a superhero sibling team, and start calling themselves Lil & Bill.
  • Parodied: In addition to Lily and Billy, there are twin girls London and Paris, twin boys Brooklyn and Jerzy, twin boys Easton and Weston, twin girls Asia and Africa, boy-and-girl twins America and Americo, and quadruplets Brooke, River, Lake and Ocean. They all go to school together.
  • Zigzagged: Lily and Billy are always paired together and look alike. It's ambiguous as to whether Lily and Billy are twins, due to either their ages being uncertain, it being unclear as to whether they're siblings, or even both. Sometimes they're called Bill and Lily, sometimes it's Bill and Lil, Lily and Willy or Lily and Will.
  • Averted:
    • There are no twins.
    • The twins are named Nadia and George.
  • Enforced: In a comedy, the producers tell the writers to give the twins rhyming names to make them more comical.
  • Lampshaded: "We're twins, so I guess our parents wanted to give us matching names."
  • Invoked: Alice and Bob are thinking of names for the twins, and Bob likes the idea of theme naming. Alice dislikes it at first, but Bob convinces her to name them William and Lily. He then calls them Billy and Lily.
  • Exploited: Billy often confuses others by claiming he is Lily. Lily catches onto this idea and calls herself Billy.
  • Defied: Alice and Bob are thinking of names for their twins, and Bob likes the idea of theme naming. He wants to name them William and Lily and call them Billy and Lily. Alice refuses to give her twins themed names for fear of them having identity issues.
  • Discussed: "Who were those twins in our class again? They had rhymey names..."
  • Conversed: "That show is so campy! They even gave the twins rhyming names!"
  • Implied: Two characters who look alike are called Lily and Billy. The audience thinks they're twins.
  • Played for Laughs: It's a Running Gag about how the twins are very similar, even their names.
  • Played for Drama: It causes one or both of them to have trouble with their identity.
  • Played for Horror: Lily and Billy are Creepy Twins who do things in a creepy synchronised fashion.
