Basic Trope: A child or teen runs away from their parent or guardian.

  • Straight: Alice runs away from her parents' home.
  • Exaggerated: Alice runs away from not only her parents, but also society.
  • Downplayed: Alice walks out from her house planning to leave until she contemplates upon being few miles from her house and decides to return back.
  • Justified:
    • Alice feels ignored and underappreciated by her parents and wants to join a circus.
    • Alice's parents cruelly mistreat her and she doesn't want to stay with them anymore.
    • Alice feels her she isn't given enough attention from her parents or isn't getting her way.
    • Alice is rebellious and doesn't like her parents enforcing their strict rules and punishments.
    • Alice had made a mistake that angered her family and friends. She determines that it would be better if she had ran away now everyone now hates her (at least in her mind).
    • Alice is an orphan who lost her parents. She's seeking to find someone to take care of her.
    • Alice wanted to do some soul-searching and wants to see if the world is a harsh place outside of her home in hopes of gaining a better perspective.
    • Alice is in love with Bob, but her parents disapprove of her relationship, so she runs away to live with him.
