Playing With / 10-Minute Retirement

Go To

Basic Trope: A character retires for an exceedingly short amount of time.

  • Straight: Bob is a superhero who is defeated at the beginning of the work and retires, but then returns to action at the end.
  • Exaggerated: Bob literally retires for 10 minutes.
  • Downplayed: Bob goes on a temporary hiatus, but doesn't officially retire.
  • Inverted: Bob is a retired superhero, who returns to action for a short amount of time and then retires again.
  • Subverted: Bob is about to return to his job, but it's only to finish a minor task that he forgot to finish before retiring.
  • Parodied: Bob has a bucket list of things to do after retiring. He completes everything on his list (in an unreasonably short amount of time) and then goes back to work.
  • Averted:
    • Bob retires for real.
    • Bob doesn't retire, temporarily or otherwise.
  • Lampshaded: "I'm probably going to come back in a few weeks anyway."
  • Discussed: "Bob has retired more times than I can count."
  • Enforced: The work in which Bob appears is subject to Status Quo Is God, so any storylines which involve him retiring must have him come out of retirement either at the end or in a sequel.
