Basic Trope: A trait that a character has is temporarily exaggerated.

  • Straight: On the show Tropetacular!, Bob is often The Ditz, but one episode has him be outright Too Dumb to Live and actually cause harm to himself/others.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Every character on Tropetacular! will get a prominent character trait of theirs temporarily exaggerated sooner or later. For instance, Alice gets an episode where she's entirely sex-crazed, Claire gets an episode in which she somehow stops a train where her bare fist, and Dave gets an episode where he figures out the cure for cancer.
    • Bob doesn't just get his ditzy traits exaggerated for a brief scene or episode, but he is permanently flanderized into a complete dumbass.
    • Bob is a Ditzy Genius at the very worst, but he still gets briefly made Too Dumb to Live at one point.
  • Downplayed: Bob momentarily starts spouting Non Sequitur dialogue, which he had never done before, but doesn't necessarily get any stupider.
  • Justified:
    • Bob had an illness, injury, or other impairment that affected his judgement.
    • Bob was in a scenario in which he legitimately didn't understand what was going on at all.
  • Inverted: Bob, who is ordinarily a Flat Character defined only by how stupid he is, briefly gets a scene where he's a more well-rounded character.
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Nobody has any change in how prominent any of their personality traits are.
  • Enforced: The plot requires that someone makes a stupid decision, and Bob seems like the likely choice to hold the Idiot Ball.
  • Lampshaded: "What's with Bob today?! He's even dumber than usual."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Nobody's traits are exaggerated in an episode.
  • Discussed: "You know, Bob usually is dumb. But today, he's as dumb as a pile of bricks."
  • Conversed: "Bob is even dumber than usual in this episode. Usually he has at least a common sense."
