- The selling point of the show's humor is all the Mind Screws.
- Downplayed: Bob, for some reason, burps into the pot for a second.
- Justified: Bob lives in a strange universe.
- Inverted:
- Bob is very sane and very boring
- Bob is normal and jokey.
- Surreal Horror
- Subverted: Bob pops out of a mashed potato pot, but it was All Just a Dream.
- Double Subverted: Bob pops out of a mashed potato pot, but it was All Just a Dream. Then he found out That Was Not a Dream.
- Parodied: Bob is a magician who explains every one of his tricks with "It's a trapdoor" even if the trick wouldn't logically include a trapdoor.
- Zig Zagged: Bob pops out of a mashed potato pot, but it was all part of the plan. But the plan was highly surreal anyway. Except that was a cover up for the darkly sinsister plan. Which is Played for Laughs and actually makes no sense.
- Averted: Bob never does anything like that.

- Exploited: Alice, in a place Bob can't get to normally, sets up a mashed potato pot to get him there.
- Defied: Alice goes over to Bob and tells him to not pop in.
- Discussed: "I was going to pop out of a mashed potato pot, but that's just stupid."
