Basic Trope: The ability to move at incredible speeds.

  • Straight: Bob is capable of easily running at a 100 MPH.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob moves so absurdly fast physics regularly breaks before him, effectively letting him use Time Travel, turn intangible, and control wind simply because of his sheer speed.
    • Every time Bob walks or runs, he always does it at the speed of light.
  • Downplayed: Bob may be the fastest man alive, but vehicles ultimately outpace him.
  • Justified:
    • Bob has ludicrous Super-Strength, thus by definition giving him great speed.
    • Bob is a biology manipulator who forces his body to be faster.
    • Bob himself isn't superhumanly fast, instead using his Telekinesis to achieve that speed.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob is capable of negative-speed, letting him move so insanely slow time leaves him behind.
    • Bob can drain kinetic energy, thus causing others to move extremely slow.
    • Slower Than a Snail
  • Subverted: Bob appears to have Super-Speed but in actually has Teleportation instead.
  • Double Subverted: ...Which he can ruthlessly spam at insane speed, making him the fastest teleporter alive.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Nobody is unnaturally faster than others.
  • Enforced: "I want to play around with Super-Speed, so make Bob into a speedster."
  • Lampshaded: "Geez man, moving that fast, how does Alice survive your 'sessions'?"
  • Invoked: Bob, having been promised Personality Powers, becomes a runner in order to get Super Speed.
  • Exploited:
    • Bob, understanding the possibilities speed presents, uses his Super Speed entirely to achieve other abilities.
    • Bob uses his speed to instantly clean his home.
    • Bob is tricked into powering a Perpetual Motion Machine by Evulz's lieutenant Drake.
  • Defied: "Sure, let's just give me incredible speed, because that couldn't go horribly wrong at all such as... Instantly killing me from force, leaving a trail of destruction, or flinging me into the future with no way to get back."
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Seriously, what is it with people and always using Super Speed? That's getting really old..." "Well, speed is one of the factors behind power, and sheer speed can justify quite a lot of abilities. Thus, the very concept is one brimming with power and potential."
  • Implied: Bob, a top athlete, seems to move a bit faster then what's humanly possible. Whether that's because the others are simply slower or he's a mutant is unknown.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Bob, lacking the Required Secondary Powers, is unable to use the full power of his speed since it'll cause massive collateral damage and seriously injure him the faster he goes. Thus, try to go full speed, and he'll end up gruesomely dying in the process causing more damage than any of his villains.
    • Speedsters are considered almost unbeatable, due to being able to Speed Blitz anything weaker than themselves and outrun anything stronger. As such they are greatly feared and loathed among supers.
    • Fragile Speedster
  • Reconstructed:
    • Bob eventually dons a suit of Powered Armor to help protect himself, letting him suppress the destructive elements of his speed whenever necessary.
    • While they're impossible to fight or catch fairly, speedsters can still be tricked and trapped. Slippery and unstable surfaces can also throw them off greatly, and the majority are no-more durable than an average human. While they're always a threat, they're far from invincible.
  • Played For Laughs:
  • Played For Drama:
    • Bob's intense speed is barely controllable, with many a Mad Scientist wanting to harness his speed to defy physics.
    • Bob can't slow his mind down, so finds every moment unreasonably long and boring.
