Basic Trope: A character who has both strength and skill.

  • Straight: Bob has Super-Strength and is a capable fighter.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is the strongest and most skilled fighter in the entire galaxy.
  • Downplayed: Bob isn't as skilled as team Badass Normal Alice, but he's learned a few things from her.
    • Bob can either hit hard, or use martial arts, but not both as they are different fighting styles and his powers can't mix between them.
  • Justified:
    • Bob's Super-Strength is very dangerous if he doesn't know how to control it.
    • In order for Bob to reach his full potential, he needs to have an equal amount of skill to his Super-Strength.
    • After Evulz manages to find Bob's Kryptonite Factor, Bob learns he can overcome it after training. Now he retains his powers when weakened, and the discipline that came with it made him even more dangerous.
    • Conversely while Bob's skills prove vital, he still needs to have Super-Strength in order to offset his skills.
  • Inverted: Bob is physically weak and lacks any combat training, so he's pretty much a Non-Action Guy.
  • Subverted: Bob has impressive Super-Strength and claims martial arts talent, but when faced against a skilled opponent of the same strength, it becomes clear his strength alone was what carried him.
  • Double Subverted: ...until he realizes he can't toy with this opponent and starts taking the fight seriously.
    • Bob takes a few blows to determine the enemy fighting style and seems to be losing... then he gets up and reveals he was feigning weakness.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: Sometimes Bob fights with skill, sometimes he fights with strength.
  • Averted: Bob is either Unskilled, but Strong or Weak, but Skilled.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "You need to have a balance between strength and power."
  • Invoked: Boxing Lessons for Superman.
  • Exploited: Evulz trains in the same level and Super-Strength as Bob so he could defeat him.
  • Defied:
    • "Why would I 'train' when I can already beat anyone to a paste? I'd much rather have fun in my spare time, thank you very much."
    • "Why would I 'train' when I can already outsmart even the smartest? I'd much rather have fun in my spare time, thank you very much."
