Basic Trope: Letting a baby or young child out of one's sight for even a second is a bad idea.
- Straight: Alice babysits little Bobby - at one point, she turns around for a moment and finds that Bobby has somehow gotten on top of the stove.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice turns around for a nanosecond and Bobby is all the way on the other side of the globe.
- Alice has to babysit multiple babies and young children which all do this.
- Downplayed:
- Alice forgets about Bobby for a minute - he ends up getting out of her sight, but after a few moments of panic she finds that he's okay.
- Bobby ends up playing with some shaving cream soon after Alice turns around. While not necessarily dangerous, it can still cause a mess.
- Justified:
- Bobby has superpowers such as teleportation, super speed, or flight, which enable him to move places quickly.
- To some extent, this can be Truth in Television. Small children are known for getting into things easily.
- Inverted: Little Bobby stops looking at Alice for a moment, and she suddenly vanishes.
- Subverted: Alice is worried about where Bobby ended up in, but finds him not far from where she left him...
- Double Subverted:
- ...she thought she found him. It was a different baby, or a realistic baby doll.
- Alice finds Bobby, but he starts running from her.
- Parodied: Bobby literally vanishes into thin air as soon as Alice stops looking.
