Basic Trope: A godlike character dislikes being worshipped as a god.

  • Straight: Angelic Alice is an immortal being who easily vanquishes ancient mosters with her magical powers. When humans form the Church of Alice in her honour, she is insulted and tells them to stop.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice kills anyone who tries to worship her with precision lightning strikes.
    • Alice is the omnipotent creator of the universe, and yet she can't understand why anyone would call her a goddess.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice is embarrassed that humans want to worship her, but doesn't openly discourage it, if only out of politeness.
    • Alice dislikes being worshiped but as free will is a thing there is nothing she can do to stop it and if anything her humility of not wanting worship just makes people worship her more so she doesn't even bother trying.
  • Justified:
    • Alice is merely an angel of the true God and wants Them to be worshipped instead (yet no matter how much she's spelling out that she's only a messenger to the God that they should be worshipping instead they're still insistent on worshipping her.)
    • The Church of Alice are a bunch of self-serving nutcases with love of human sacrifice. Alice wants them gone for moral reasons.
    • Alice is a firm believer in the greatness of humanity. The idea of humans worshipping anyone as their superior appalls her.
    • Alice is religious herself and isn't comfortable with being viewed as a false god.
  • Inverted: Alice is a regular person with a god complex who demands worship from other humans.
  • Subverted: Alice was just faking humility. She actually loves being worshipped and hopes denying her divinity will attract even more followers to her Church.
  • Double Subverted: ...so that she can gather all those followers in one place and drop a heavenly nuke on them, killing off the entire Church.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Despite Alice's vast power, no one thinks of her as a deity.
    • Alice approves of being worshipped.
  • Enforced: "So Alice is basically a god now. That's gonna rile religious people." "What if she actually rejects the people who worship her?"
  • Lampshaded: "Alice, if people worshipped me, I wouldn't try to stop it."
  • Invoked: Baleful Bob, Alice's Arch-Enemy, sets up the Church of Alice just to annoy her.
  • Exploited: When Alice denies her divinity, Baleful Bob turns her followers against her, arguing that the real Alice would never reject worship like this.
  • Defied: Alice uses mass psychic powers to ensure that no one thinks of her as a deity.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: At a Church of Alice event, the alleged "God" Alice doesn't seem very enthusiastic.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice has comically devoted followers who misinterpret everything she says as a divine proclamation with deep, hidden meeting.
  • Played for Drama: The Church of Alice stops Alice from seeing her friends and family because they're not "true believers" over her protests.
  • Played for Horror: The Church of Alice wants to kill Alice's "mortal shell" so she can "ascend." Alice desperately begs them to realize she isn't their god.
