Basic Trope: A character attempts to start their own version of something after being fed up with their current experience.

  • Straight: After a pretty hellish production cycle on Lampshade Animation Studios's latest film, Alice and Bob quit on the spot and vow to start a new animation studio as revenge.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice and Bob's answer to everything is to 'harrumph' and start their own. Can't get a loan? They'll start their own bank. The animation program is too expensive? They'll program their own. Can't get into the computer science classes to learn how to create said program? They'll start their own college...
    • Alice and Bob go through a cycle of founding and leaving studios once their growth means that Alice and Bob lose the creative control they had upon founding them.
  • Downplayed: They start production on their very own animated film to spite the executives.
  • Justified:
    • There were multiple issues plaguing production, and Alice and Bob simply can't take it anymore.
    • The two have been working at Lampshade long enough to have all of the necessary skills, and they wish to put that to the test.
  • Inverted: Alice is promoted to CEO, while Bob is Kicked Upstairs.
  • Subverted: Alice and Bob angrily walk out and vow to leave for ever, but they arrive the next day.
  • Double Suverted:... only for them to pick up their last paychecks. Afterwards, Alice turns to Larry Lampshade and tells him "You and your team are some of the most unprofessional, unorthodox, and downright insane animators, writers and producers I've ever worked with. Sure our first few years were okay, but it's and understatement as to how far we've fallen. Now if you'll excuse us, Bob and I will head out to establish a studio of our own."
  • Parodied:???
  • Zig Zagged:???
  • Averted: Alice and Bob don't intend on founding their own animation studio and stay throughout the entire production cycle.
  • Enforced: "We have to encourage our audience that you should be the change you want to see when in bad situations."
  • Lampshaded: "Alice and Bob are going to start their own studio? We're doomed!"
  • Invoked: When the two of them file their complaints about their work environment, Larry tells them "Let's See YOU Do Better!" and they procede to take that to heart.
  • Exploited: Alice and Bob lie about starting their own studio in hopes of guilt tripping Larry to improve the workplace.
  • Defied: Lampshade Animation Studios has a Resignations Not Accepted policy to prevent things like this from happening.
