Basic Trope: Soup is associated with being given to sick people.

  • Straight: Alice's soup is mainly given to other characters when they are sick.
  • Exaggerated: Alice's soup is only given to sick people.
  • Downplayed: Alice's soup is said to be good for when you're sick, but is eaten a lot of times by healthy people.
  • Justified:
    • It's given to Bob when he's sick because he requires something easy to eat.
    • The soup actually cures illness.
    • The soup contains immune system boosting nutrients, and Alice doesn't know how to cook the vegetable(s) they come from less than soggy.
    • Bob likes the taste of the soup, so when he gets sick, Alice gives it to him to cheer him up.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice's soup is portrayed as bad for sick people.
    • Soup is associated with healthy people.
  • Subverted: Alice is giving soup to Bob, who's in bed... but it turns out he's not sick.
  • Double Subverted: Alice was giving him the soup because she thought he was.
  • Parodied:
  • Zigzagged: Alice's soup is served to Bob, who's in bed... but he's not sick... but Alice thought he was... but she's serving soup to Charles too, who's healthy... she then serves soup to Diane, who is sick... then she dishes herself a bowl... then she serves some to the dog!
  • Averted:
    • There is no soup.
    • There are no Sick Episodes.
    • People are seen eating soup, but it's never associated with illness.
    • Bob gets sick. Alice doesn't give him soup.
  • Lampshaded:
    • "Just because I'm having soup doesn't mean I'm ill, okay?"
    • "Sigh. Soup again? It's just because I'm sick, isn't it?"
  • Enforced: The show is sponsored by a soup company that tells the writers to make the characters treat soup like medicine.
  • Invoked: Evan advertises soup as being good for colds.
  • Exploited:
    • Evan makes a healing potion and puts it into soup, knowing it will get fed to sick people and cure them.
    • Sam the Snake Oil Salesman notices that soup is associated with illness, and tries to sell the sick Bob an "all-natural tomato soup" that will supposedly cure him.
  • Defied: Alice makes sure never to give her soup to sick people more than to healthy people.
  • Discussed: "Alice's soup is sure good for what ails ya, but why must we always associate it with sickness?"
  • Conversed: "Those shows always associate soup with invalids. Puts me off my food."
  • Implied: Bob is seen eating soup and he looks sick.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Bob and Charles are put off Alice's soup, as it's associated with sickness.
    • Bob and Charles have a gastric illness, and eating Alice's soup upsets their stomachs even more.
  • Reconstructed: They realize it's good for colds, but they also know it's delicious for healthy people too.
  • Played For Laughs: The soup tastes great... but it's only served to sick people. Cue Bob's pitiful attempt at Playing Sick.
  • Played for Drama: Find the Cure! when the cure is soup.
