Basic Trope: Visual metaphor for arousal.

  • Straight: Bob is sexually attracted to Alice, and when he sees her, his usually curly Idiot Hair stands upright.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is sexually attracted to Alice, and when he sees her, not only his idiot hair stands up, a volcano erupts in the background, the Leaning Tower of Pisa stands back upright, and a flower suddenly blooms next to him.
  • Downplayed: Bob is sexually attracted to Alice. When he sees her, his smile turns into a full-blown grin.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • Bob sees Alice and is so repulsed his idiot hair forms a zig-zagging pattern.
    • Footage of arousal is shown as a metaphor of curly hair turning straight.
    • Bob's usually-upright hair suddenly droops downwards to serve as a visual metaphor for The Loins Sleep Tonight.
  • Parodied:
  • Subverted: Bob sees Alice, his idiot hair stands upright... but it's just the wind making his hair stand up.
  • Double Subverted: Then a flower blooms next to him.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, Bob, is your hair some sort of desire sensor or what?"
  • Averted:
  • Enforced: "It's a kid's show, but we want to appeal to a wider audience - that trick will definitely be a good Parental Bonus !"
  • Invoked: An evil witch curses Bob's erectile functions to migrate to his idiot hair.
  • Exploited:
    • Alice uses the reaction of Bob's hair to gauge how sexy she is.
    • In the case of the "flower bloom" erection, Bob uses his arousal to populate an entire garden.
  • Discussed: "Ooh, here comes Alice - now watch intently Bob's hair and how it's gonna react!"
  • Conversed: "Well, I guess that's a way to convey sexual arousal in a safe for work manner..."
  • Deconstructed: Bob has erectile dysfunction, and this is the only way he found to convey sexual arousal.
  • Reconstructed: It's soon recognized as an uncanny talent, and Bob becomes famous for it.
