Playing With / Slouch of Villainy

Go To

Basic Trope: A villain slouches when seated.

  • Straight: Emperor Evulz slouches in his throne.
  • Exaggerated: Emperor Evulz treats his throne like a couch, lying sideways on it, propping his feet on one end and his neck on another.
  • Downplayed: Evulz' posture is only slightly awkward.
  • Justified:
    • Evulz' chair is quite comfortable.
    • Evulz' chair is poorly designed, making a slouched posture more stable than an upright one.
    • Evulz is really tired after a long day of Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob sits up straight in his chair, while all his Mooks slouch in theirs.
    • Sir Robert slouches in his chair.
  • Subverted: Evulz leans back in his chair, only to straighten up.
  • Double Subverted: Evulz sits back in his chair and straightens out. He decides that slouching is more comfortable and continues to do it.
  • Parodied:
    • Evulz gets comfortable in his chair and falls asleep.
    • Evulz spends an inordinate amount of time shifting from one slouch to the other.
    • Evulz stands up from his throne with a pained groan and a loud creaking sound from his joints.
    • The chair itself is so comfy that anyone who sits in it will eventually fall to this trope (although maybe without the villainy part). Sometimes it gets so comfy they fall asleep!
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Both heroes and villains slouch at certain times, but not others.
    • Evulz alternates between slouching, sitting upright, and standing.
  • Averted: Evulz sits up straight in his chair.
  • Enforced: Charlie is playing Evulz the Villain, and Charlie suffers from a handicap that prevents him from sitting up straight; the creators decide to write this in to his character.
  • Lampshaded: One Mook points out that Evulz will suffer back problems if he has such bad posture.
  • Invoked: Evulz sits up straight for a portrait, but the painter/photographer insists that he slouch to give the impression that he is more powerful.
  • Exploited: Evulz randomly decides not to set up straight one day, and discovers that his Mooks are much more in line. He realizes that this works to his advantage and feels more comfortable.
  • Defied: The villain refuses to sit in such a comfortable chair, reasoning that it will make him less alert of his surroundings.
  • Discussed: Evulz asks his marketer whether he should sit up straight to project alertness or sprawl to project self-confidence, and the marketer comes up with a long list of reasons for each.
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played for Drama:
    • Evulz is suffering from a crippling disease, but must appear more powerful lest his minions try to seize power. He creates the illusion that he is nonchalant to dissuade the notion of his declining health.
    • Evulz' slouch is a representation of his growing discontent and lack of enthusiasm over his evil deeds.
  • Played for Laughs: Evulz sits in some really weird positions, like sitting upside-down.
