Basic Trope: A character is taking a shower or bath and tries to grab a bar of soap, only to have it slip out of their hands constantly.
- Straight: Alice is trying to enjoy her nice, hot bubble bath, and makes a grab for her favorite bar of soap, only to have it slip on the ground out of her reach.
- Exaggerated: All Alice has to do is touch it and it flies out of her grasp.
- Downplayed: The soap is slippery, but no so much to hinder Alice's bath.
- Justified: Alice is naturally clumsy.
- Inverted:
- The soap is always stable, even if Alice's hands are greasy.
- Sticky soap.
- Subverted: Alice uses liquid soap or shower gel.
- Double Subverted: The bottle of soap or gel is itself too slippery to grab.
- Parodied: The soap is ultimately important in Alice's quest to defeat evil. Not that she will ever be able to hold it.
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: Alice uses shower gel.
- Enforced: Any brand of soap must be tested for sufficient slipperiness before being sold.
- Lampshaded: "I'm tired of the soap falling out of my hands every time I turn the shower on!"
- Invoked: Bob bought the soap at a joke store.
- Exploited:
- Bob is recording the struggle for posterity's sake.
- Alice attaches soap to her shoes to make skates.
- Alice is in communal showers when the Alpha Bitch shows up to pick a Cat Fight. Alice digs her fingernails into the bar of soap long enough to scrub until she's as slippery as the soap is.
- Defied: Alice goes to all lengths to stop the soap from slipping from her grasp.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: "That soap must be extremely slippery."
Back to Slippery Soap. But don't let it slip out of your hands!
