Basic Trope: Individuals that are capable of shifting their physical sex.
- Straight: Bob is able to change into a woman and back again.
- Exaggerated: Everyone in the universe is able to shift to the point no one's sure what physical sexes are natural.
- Downplayed: Bob is able to partially change into a woman, but always retains some of his original sex.
- Justified: Bob isn't actually an organic being, thus he can just restructure his body.
- Inverted: ???
- Subverted: Bob appears to change sex, but that was actually a hologram.
- Double Subverted: ...In actuality his shifting is much more subtle.
- Parodied: Bob changes into a woman and has to navigate lots of guys flirting with him, until he turns back into a man.
- Zig Zagged: Bob appears to change sex, but that's actually a hologram... Which served to make his female form look more attractive. However his body doesn't actually become female, instead just shifting his skin. Still...
- Averted: Shapeshifters either can't change sex or don't exist.
- Enforced: "We need to show Bob is a standup guy... What if we have him shift into a woman to show he isn't sexist?"
- Lampshaded: "You can change sex at will? Geez, do you enter ice cream parlors as a slutty woman then?"
- Invoked: Bob, having always wondered like it is like, uses his shifting to change into a woman.
- Exploited: Emperor Evulz sends one of his agents to impregnate Bob's female form so s/he can't change back into a male.
- Defied: "I could change sex, or I could just stay a guy and never have to experience the radical differences of being a womam."
- Discussed: "Man, Bob is just awesome. Guy, girl, it doesn't matter to him what they are." "Yes, that's certainly a good mindset. Though he would make a better parther for bisexuals."
- Conversed: "Wait, changing one's sex can't be an easy process, so why does anyone do it?" "Well, have you never wondered what it is like being the opposite sex?"
- Implied: Bob has photos of himself and his never seen sister Betty, with him occasionally stating his sister is "really cool".
- Deconstructed: Shifting between sexes is very resource intense, and the process is very painful.
- Reconstructed: Bob learns how to deal with the pain, and he keeps a lot of resource on hand to fuel his shifting.
- Played For Laughs: Bob changes into a woman almost exclusively to surprise people.
- Played For Drama: Getting pregnant in a female form means one can't change into a male one lest you risk the unborn child dying.
