Basic Trope: A character or a group who claim (or are claimed by others) to enact societal change but do hardly anything to achieve it.

  • Straight: Alice joins the Troperia Liberation Front, described in promotional materials as a badass underground revolutionary organization seeking to depose the current regime in Troperia. She finds out its members mostly sit around in the TLF headquarters, discuss what their reign will be like, and squabble about minor disagreements with each other, giving barely any time to planning the revolution.
  • Exaggerated: TLF members do anything but revolutionary planning or politics in their meetings: discuss favorite movies or latest sports matches, sing, practise musical instruments, play bowling, drink craft beer, smoke pot... At this point, TLF is more of a fancy social club with 'radical' aesthetics rather than a political organization.
  • Downplayed: TLF members engage in some political activties. However, most of it amounts to Poke the Poodle, like leaving angry comments on social media pages of politicians they dislike, spamming edgy graffiti around the town, and very occasionally picketing the city hall... on weekends, when there's no one inside. At worst, a drunk TLF member might smash a storefront and later frame it as a 'statement against the bourgeoisie'.
  • Justified: The Troperia Liberation Front is filled to the brim with people who have only learned the most surface level understanding of what it actually takes to make a rebellion. They either don't realize that they have to actually take real risks to their livelihoods and make meaningful and targeted actions against the proper establishments for maximum effectiveness, are people who do somewhat understand but struggle to take any kind of initiative because of the lack of a strong leadership to push their energies in the right direction, or in truth are so utterly cowardly and unwilling to actually risk their own lives that they instead expect "the sheep" to rise up and become the Cannon Fodder to die in their place for their revolution (which they will then take the credit and glory for said revolution. Despite the fact that people typically don't want to die for ungrateful assholes who view them as disposable, ideals be damned.)
  • Inverted: Better Troperia Council is a team of smart, skilled, driven experts drafting reform bills for Troperian government. To outsiders, they work to maintain the status quo, but once each of their bills is enacted the people increasingly notice the change in their lives.
  • Subverted: TLF members practise singing and music to record an album of propaganda songs that would inspire Troperians to demand for change and stand up for their rights.
  • Double Subverted: TLF releases their album. After a month, its only listeners are TLF members themselves, their family members (involuntarily) and a couple of annoyed neighbors.
  • Parodied: TLF believes that jaywalking, smoking in a no-smoking area or mattress tag ripping is the ultimate act of sticking it to the Man.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • TLF is a no-nonsense revolutionary organization that actively partakes in politics and organizes its electorate (whether successfully or not).
    • Troperia has no known revolutionary groups, serious or not.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "When are we going to start planning the 'revolution' you claim is round the corner, anyway?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Bob demands that all members of TLF outspokenly promote their ideals, engage with prospective allies and organize the population at large. He even personally dismisses several 'slacktivists' to show he means business.
  • Discussed:
Captain Charlie: "Look, Detective, the Troperia Liberation Front held a demonstration in the downtown yesterday and even released a manifesto."
Detective Diane: "Oh yeah, another group of wannabe revolutionaries who would spend most of their time picking smart-sounding words for their new manifesto, doing pot and spraying tasteless graffiti everywhere. Clearly a high-priority threat, innit, Cap?"
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Alice talks about her brief stint in the Troperia Liberation Front. When asked about what they did regarding politics or society, she just silently shrugs.
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: ???
