Basic Trope: Actors who made their names in adult-oriented works move to works that are more family-friendly.

  • Straight: Bob used to star in R-rated action-packed movies wherein he played a violent, bad-tempered, and cynical Anti-Hero. Now he plays a more idealistic, friendly, and orderly hero in family-friendly material.
  • Exaggerated: Bob used to play a sadistic, bloodthirsty, and monstrous villain in many horror films, but now hosts a TV-Y kids' show.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob goes from starring in PG-13 films to TV-G shows.
    • Bob originally starred in R rated films, but moved to PG-13 rated works.
  • Justified: Bob is gradually maturing after all of these years of starring in action-packed movies.
  • Inverted: Bob used to be a kids' show host, but moves to mainstream adult-oriented programs where he stars as a brutal, ruthless gunman.
  • Subverted:
    • Brutal Bob is leading villain in a PG-13 action movie. However he is a Knight of Cerebus. Copious use of discretion shots leaves some viewing this appearance as scary as his normal violent ones.
    • The "family-friendly" show turns out to be a Subverted Kids' Show.
  • Double Subverted: In the sequel, though, he is far less threatening, even ending up a Butt-Monkey as other villains, disgusted at his actions in the previous film, make sure that he's Hoist by His Own Petard.
  • Parodied: 20 Minutes into the Future we see porn stars hosting children's shows — under their porn names.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob started out as a child star. He got more PG in his teenaged years and transitioned to R-rated dramatic action films as an adult. As he got into middle age he started appearing in comedies — his fitness for action roles declined and he enjoyed doing things his kids could watch.
  • Averted: Bob continues to perform in adult-appropriate programming.
  • Enforced: Bob does it for his kids' sake.
  • Lampshaded: "Isn't Bob a bit out of place as a babysitter?" "Don't worry, I can't even curse with this show's rating."
  • Invoked: After building up injuries from his extreme violent stunts, Bob retires to Bumbling Dad roles.
  • Exploited: Once Bob has become known as a kids' movie character, he is able to star in a Subverted Kids' Show without giving away the twist.
  • Defied: Bob decides that moving to family-friendly programming isn't his interest and stays on adult-oriented programming.
  • Discussed: Bob's character in his family movie mentions that he used to have more thrills in his life.
  • Conversed: "Bob might just have wanted to avoid Typecasting..."
