Basic Trope: A raccoon is portrayed as a trickster and/or thief.

  • Straight: Robbie the Raccoon is a Con Artist or burglar.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Robbie is portrayed as an outright villain.
    • Robbie steals anything and everything he sees.
    • All raccoons in the story are portrayed this way.
  • Downplayed: Robbie can be mischievous at times and may even steal on occasion, but is ultimately a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Justified:
    • Robbie is poor, and stealing what he needs is one of the few ways he can get by in the world.
    • Robbie has kleptomania.
  • Inverted:
    • Raccoons are portrayed as invokedLawful Good heroes.
    • Robbie the Raccoon is the Straight Man to his friend Herman the Hedgehog.
  • Subverted: Although Robbie may pretend to be rascally on occasion, it's all just an act.
  • Double Subverted: Robbie ends up Becoming the Mask (in a fairly literal sense).
  • Parodied:
  • Zig-Zagged:
  • Averted:
    • There are no raccoons in the story.
    • Robbie does not act mischievous at all.
  • Enforced: The creator of the story thinks that raccoons are fit for the role of a mischievous thief, considering their intelligence, nocturnal nature, and mask-like facial markings.
  • Lampshaded: "Watch out for Robbie the Raccoon. He'll do whatever it takes to get ahead of you — act like your friend one moment, stab you in the back the next."
  • Invoked: A heroic thief] with the power of Voluntary Shapeshifting turns into a raccoon to commit his crimes.
  • Exploited: In a town of Funny Animals, Fluffy (a cute but secretly devious rabbit) robs his neighbor in the middle of the night. In the morning, when his neighbor discovers that her possessions have been stolen, Fluffy claims to have seen Robbie the raccoon sneaking around suspiciously the previous night, knowing that the town sees raccoons as thieves and will believe the lie.
  • Defied: Robbie knows that he is better than the stereotypes of raccoons, and decides not to follow them.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Why are raccoons always portrayed as thieves in cartoons?"
  • Deconstructed: Raccoons are often subject to prejudice due to this stereotype.
  • Played for Laughs: Robbie tries to steal the moon, or something similar.
  • Played for Drama:
    • Robbie's kleptomania lands him in trouble with the law.
    • Robbie is a Homeless Hero who's stealing just to get by.
