- Straight: A Hate Plague breaks out in the town of Tropersville. The authorities post soldiers with weapons to keep watch on the town and kill anyone who comes out of it within a quarantine period.
- Exaggerated: A Hate Plague breaks out in the town of Tropersville. The authorities firebomb the entire state to make sure no infected persons or things are left to spread the plague.
- Downplayed: A Hate Plague breaks out in the town of Tropersville. The soldiers are given stun guns and instructed to shoot any escapees, which would leave them vulnerable to any infectees who come by.
- Justified: The Hate Plague is so highly contagious and incurable that killing the infected and burning the bodies is, unfortunately, the only way to be sure of stopping the epidemic.
- Inverted: A Hate Plague has overtaken the rest of the world. Tropersville is the last healthy city, and soldiers are given orders to shoot anyone trying to enter in order to keep it that way.
- Subverted: A Hate Plague breaks out in the town of Tropersville and soldiers come with guns...and it turns out they're only for self-defense while they set up a safehouse for any survivors of the plague.
- Double Subverted: However, then the plague breaks out among the survivors and the generals tell the soldiers to shoot anyone potentially infected on sight.
- Parodied:
- The soldiers are sent to Tropersville with instructions to shoot anyone they see...and amass severe casualties in their own ranks from friendly fire.
- The Plague that has the government deploying soldiers with orders to murder anybody who is suspected of being infected, incinerate the remains and drop nuclear weapons to sterilize the town… is one that makes people sing Nickelback songs.
