Basic Trope: A prophecy doesn't reveal all the pertinent information.

  • Straight: Alice sees a vision of Bob being attacked by his Arch-Enemy. She goes to great lengths to put said arch-enemy in prison so the vision can't come true...but it turns out Bob's attacker was only posing as his Arch-Enemy.
  • Exaggerated: Alice sees a vision of Bob being attacked by his Arch-Enemy in a certain town at 12:01 according to a digital clock...only to find out, after all her efforts, that he was actually attacked by someone posing as his arch enemy in front of an advertisement for the town at 10:51.
  • Downplayed: ???
  • Justified: Visions of the future in this world are only seeing what will happen in the future, and there is no guarantee how much of it the person will be allowed to view.
  • Inverted: ???
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice sees a vision and tries to prevent it...and, having all the important information regarding its time, place, and involved persons, she succeeds.
  • Enforced: The executives want to give the prophecy a twist without using word tricks.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice knows the vision could have missing pieces, so she borrows a time machine, goes to the future, and reads the newspaper story about the attack, which gives her all the details she needs to know.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "They're forecasting Bob's death and his actor still has nearly a year in his contract...what do you bet Bob's in a play where he dies or something?"
