Playing With / Prefer Jail to the Protagonist

Go To

Basic Trope: Prison isn't half so bad as the protagonist.

  • Straight: After being locked in a building with Bob for some time while trying to escape, Dracone willingly goes back to prison to get away from him.
  • Exaggerated: After catching a sight of Bob chasing him while trying to escape, Dracone runs back to prison and attacks several of the guards so that he'll get sent to The Alcatraz, just so he'll be away from Bob for the rest of his life.
  • Downplayed: After being with Bob for a few days, Dracone tries to escape from him, but is caught because of his carelessness. However, he puts up less resistance than usual to going back to prison.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Bob gets himself thrown in prison to stay away from Dracone.
  • Subverted: Dracone returns to prison at the sight of Bob... but it turns out Bob bribed him so he could pad his reputation.
  • Double Subverted: But the next time, Bob genuinely scares him and he runs back of his own free will.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Dracone goes to a Cardboard Prison that he can easily escape once he's had enough time to recover from his latest encounter with Bob.
  • Averted: Dracone never sends himself to jail to avoid Bob.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "You don't know what that Bob character is like. Going back to prison was nothing."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: The police don't even bother showing up; they just inform Bob where Dracone is.
  • Defied:
Dracone: I once swore to myself that I would die before seeing the inside of a joint and this asshole won't make me break that promise! So if I die showing him who's boss, then I'm okay with that!
    • Bob kills Dracone before he can be sent to jail.
    • Bob follows Dracone to prison and makes his life in there a billion times worse than it would have ever been outside.
  • Discussed: "Unlike what you see in the movies, most times a person will not go back to prison just to escape someone."
  • Conversed: "I've seen this a hundred times in movies. He's gonna run back to prison because he can't stand the hero."
  • Implied: Dracone returns to prison after his most recent escape. When his cellmate asks why, Dracone looks toward the window, where Bob is walking by.
