Basic Trope: A character using their special powers (especially for the first time) faints.
- Straight: Bob uses his Super-Strength to pull a cart off someone and passes out.
- Exaggerated: Bob uses his Super-Strength to support a collapsing cavern and is Asleep for Days afterwards.
- Downplayed: Bob uses his Super-Strength to pull a cart off someone and gets woozy.
- Justified:
- Bob has super strength, but not super stamina.
- Bob hasn't exercised his powers properly.note
- Inverted: Bob takes a day off using his strength and passes out.
- Subverted: Bob uses his Super-Strength to pull a cart off someone and passes out...but it turns out he had the flu.
- Double Subverted: ...However, the next time he uses his strength, he passes out again.
- Parodied: Picking up something tiny like a pencil causes Bob to pass out, but he can lift a car with no trouble.
- Zig Zagged: Bob uses his Super-Strength and passes out, but it turns out he had the flu. The next time he uses it, however, he passes out. Sometimes he merely gets woozy.
- Averted: No characters in the story have special powers.
- Enforced: The author wants a dramatic scene.
- Lampshaded:Bob: No one ever told me the side effects of Super-Strength include passing out.
- Invoked: Similar to Justified, Bob passing out from using his Super-Strength is due to Required Secondary Powers that kick in to avoid putting too much strain on his body.
- Exploited: Bob's archenemy uses the fainting spell to capture him.
- Defied: Bob learns his limits to what he can lift and what he can't.
- Discussed: "I mean, even with your crazy strong muscles, there's gotta be something that'll be too much for you, right?"
- Conversed: "Wow, he's super strong but that cart was all it took to make him faint?"
- Implied: Bob, who has Super-Strength, is visible in one scene trying to lift a large boulder, and clearly straining to do so. In a later scene he's revealed to be passed out in a hospital bed.
- Deconstructed: After he wakes up and is informed of what happened, Bob becomes depressed due to feeling he's not strong enough to face future threats.
- Reconstructed: Bob trains himself to try and stretch his limits.
- Played For Laughs: Bob lifts a cart, then promptly passes out... falling into the cart. Which suddenly rolls off with him inside.
- Played for Drama: Bob passing out from lifting the cart is a major indicator that he's not as powerful as he used to be.
