Basic Trope: A character who gets more powerful also gets longer hair.

  • Straight: Bob takes a level in badass and his hair grows longer.
  • Exaggerated: Bob takes a level in badass and his military crewcut becomes super-long.
  • Downplayed: Bob takes a level in badass and his hair becomes slightly longer.
  • Justified:
    • Bob's new power comes from his hair.
    • Bob gained his new power from a secret cult whose members vow never to cut their hair.
    • Bob was so busy taking a level in badass that he didn't have time to cut his hair.
    • Bob is normally a child and becomes stronger by invoking an Older Alter Ego... and because he rapidly ages himself up a few years within an instant, his hair grows out as a natural side-effect of the biological growth.
  • Inverted: Bob's hair shortens when using his powers.
  • Subverted: Bob grew out his hair for entirely unrelated reasons.
  • Double Subverted: But when he becomes stronger his hair grows even longer.
  • Parodied: When Bob transforms, his pubic hair becomes longer.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob uses his powers and gains long hair. But he cuts it off, and then it only grows slightly. He cuts it off again, but this time it grows to down his back.
  • Averted: Bob takes a level in badass and his hair remains unchanged.
  • Enforced: "Superpowered Bob looks too similar to regular Bob! Give him longer hair so the viewers can see the difference."
  • Lampshaded: "Hey SuperBob, nice hair."
  • Invoked:
    • Bob intentionally grows a Samurai Ponytail to show his new badass level.
    • Bob gained the power for the longer hair that comes with it.
  • Exploited: Charlie grows his hair out to make others think he has become more powerful.
  • Defied: Bob's hair grows with his power, but he cuts it all off.
  • Discussed: "If you ever see Bob's hair grow, run away really really fast."
  • Conversed: Characters are watching a show: "Now watch, in this episode, you can see the exact moment Bob powers up - just watch for when his hair grows."
  • Deconstructed: Bob's hair grows after getting stronger but the hair ends up becoming a hindrance that interferes with his fighting style and becomes more distracting than helpful. The initial power boost wears off and he becomes somewhat handicapped by it.
  • Reconstructed: After he spends enough time with this longer hair, Bob's training allows him to cope with the longer hair which allows his prowess to increase and for him to become a far stronger warrior he was previously.
