Basic Trope: A safe place for societal outcasts to take refuge.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia, the Lizardos face Fantastic Racism from humans and aren't allowed to live in human cities, so they found the city Liztopia where they can live freely.
  • Exaggerated: The Lizardos leave the planet entirely and colonize another to be as far away from humans as possible.
  • Downplayed: Lizardos are mildly teased for their appearance and found a clubhouse where they can be safe from the teasing.
  • Justified: Humans can carry a disease that is harmless to them but deadly to Lizardos, so the Lizardos live in an isolated city far away from humans.
  • Subverted: Liztopia was founded by racist human leaders as a fake refuge to attract as many Lizardos as possible before they are slaughtered en masse.
  • Double Subverted: ...but those racist humans are overthrown before they can enact their plan and the Lizardos thrive in Liztopia.
  • Inverted: Fantastic Ghetto, where the Lizardos are forced to live in segregation by the humans, or Unsafe Haven, where the refuge turns out not to be safe.
  • Enforced: The Lizardo storyline has been unpopular for its excessive bleakness, so Liztopia is created to give them a bit more stability.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Averted: All races get along and none feel the need to take refuge away from the others.
  • Defied: When this plan is proposed, a Lizardo leader points out this plan will only encourage division and insists that Lizardos must pursue integration into human cities.
  • Zig-Zagged: The Lizardos face Fantastic Racism from humans and aren't allowed to live in human cities, so they found the city Liztopia where they can live freely, but it comes under attack by the humans, and after years of defending it, the Lizardo leadership becomes far worse than the humans ever were.
  • Deconstructed: Left to their own devices, anti-human sentiment builds within Lizardo leadership and they lash out at the humans who were otherwise happy to leave them alone leading to war. The humans win and, as a result, the Lizardos have it worse than ever.
  • Reconstructed: ...purged of their racist leadership, the surviving Lizardos better adapt to human society and bring parts of their culture to the humans, allowing both races to find peace and prosperity.
