Basic Trope: The player can choose if he wants certain characters to join the party.

  • Straight: After The Team of Bob, Alice, Emily, Dave and Charlie join the party, you can pick if you want Doom Komodo, Doctor Von Teslastein, Violet, Lamia and Jason Bloodspiller to join, giving you the ability to rotate the party.
  • Exaggerated: You can pick who you want to be in The Team, or even do Solo-Character Run, as none of them is required to join, with the rest doing whatever they do if you don't pick them.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob has the option of getting Violet to join him through out the game. Other than that, the party is set.
    • You can get a couple of Optional Guest Star Party Members during certain missions, but all your permanent party members will join no matter what.
  • Justified: They offer their services, but don't have to join like the other five, and they aren't The Chosen Ones with the Famous Ancestors.
  • Inverted: You can choose if you want characters to leave.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted:
    • You can choose if you want them to rejoin.
    • Once you defeated the traitor, you can recruit him again and he no longer betrays you.
  • Parodied: You can ask Doom Komodo not to join, but he'll come along anyway.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: You can't choose the party.
  • Enforced: The creators feel that the player should be able to choose the heroes.
  • Lampshaded: "Perhaps we should take some along..."
  • Invoked: Violet decides not to join unless Bob asks, because she'd rather be off doing her own thing.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Every Player Character in the game insists on coming along.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Doctor von Teslastein is a great party member. Why, oh why, do they let you choose not to take him along?"
  • Played For Laughs: If you don't take them along, they storm off in anger.
  • Played For Drama: If you don't choose them, they die.
