Playing With / Non-Ironic Clown

Go To

Basic Trope: A clown who actually acts like a clown, and is usually friendly.

  • Straight: Bee Bee the clown is a beloved party entertainer for all ages.
  • Exaggerated: Bee Bee is an All-Loving Hero, and she often entertains sick children in hospitals in her spare time.
  • Downplayed: Bee Bee (also known by her real name, Alice) is a cynical, world-weary adult when she's "off-duty", but she does genuinely enjoy and care about making people happy.
  • Justified: Bee Bee enjoys the job.
  • Inverted: Monster Clown
  • Subverted: Bee Bee reveals that she's not as nice as she seems.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: Bee Bee is an old retired clown and goes on a rant about how clowns these days are only for horror.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: There are no clowns.
  • Enforced: "There aren't many clowns in media that actually depict the friendly side of them anymore. Let's change that."
  • Lampshaded: "Huh, a clown that isn't some horrible monster or serial killer and is instead... just a clown. Imagine that".
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Bee Bee deliberately makes herself look horrifying so no one mistakes her for a clown.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Bee Bee is a background character, and doesn't look like or do anything heinous, but also isn't shown interacting with kids.
  • Deconstructed: Modern media is so oversaturated with evil and scary clown imagery that no children like Bee Bee when she entertains, despite her efforts to make them smile. Feeling unappreciated and somewhat unmotivated, she quits.
  • Reconstructed: Bee Bee has an epiphany and decides to make herself into a Sad Clown, using the negative stigma against clowns and turning it into humor.

Back to Non-Ironic Clown. Honk honk!
