Basic Trope: A character leaves, and another character, usually a loved one, doesn't wish them farewell. The leaving character never comes back.
- Straight: Bob, a soldier, is sent on a mission. Alice misses the plane Bob departs on and doesn't get a chance to see him off. Bob never comes back.
- Exaggerated: Bob and Alice had a huge fight before Bob left, but right before he left, Alice realized that not only was she the one at fault for what they fought over, but she feels horrible about the last thing she said to him. By the time she arrives at the airport, Bob has left...and when he comes back, he's in a bodybag.
- Downplayed: Bob moves far away to a land where Alice may never see him again, and she neglects to see him off.
- Justified: Alice didn't knew Bob was going away and was really angry when he left.
- Inverted: Bob dies while Alice is pregnant, so he never gets to say hello to his newborn child.
- Subverted: Alice doesn't get a chance to see Bob off after he leaves for deployment. She waits at the base for his return the day his company gets back...and Bob is there, bandaged but alive.
- Double Subverted: Alive, yes...but Bob's catatonic after being just a bit too close to an explosion out in the field. Alice only gets enough time to see Bob's unconscious face before the EKG flatlines.
- Parodied: Bob only left to the Kitchen to grab some drinks Alice asked for, but he vanishes and is never seen again, much to Alice's regret.
- Zig Zagged: Bob comes Back from the Dead for a limited amount of time, and Alice greets him with a goodbye. Bob, having no idea he died, asked Alice why said that. Alice starts to explain, but then Bob disappears, never to be seen again.
- Averted: Alice gets the chance to say goodbye to Bob.
- Enforced: The creator wants to make a tragic scene, so they have Bob killed without Alice saying goodbye.
- Lampshaded: “You never said goodbye to Bob? That must be hard on you.”
- Invoked: Emperor Evulz disguises as Bob’s boss Charles, then tells him he needs to be on the front lines immediately, with no questions asked.
- Exploited: Evulz tempts Alice with a shady deal to resurrect Bob, noting that she at least deserves to say goodbye to him.
- Defied: A few minutes before Bob departs, Diane reminds Alice to say goodbye to him.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: "Bob is now departing to war, I'm guessing Alice won't be able to say goodbye"
