Basic Trope: A character is often scared or neurotic.

  • Straight: Carlos gets scared easily, always expects the worst outcome, and is prone to Heroic BSODs.
  • Exaggerated: Carlos is completely pantophobic.
  • Downplayed: Carlos is only afraid of a few things.
  • Justified: Carlos has an anxiety disorder.
  • Subverted: Carlos is perfectly capable of controlling his fears.
  • Double Subverted: Carlos panics after something happens that he didn't expect.
  • Inverted: Carlos is never scared of anything.
  • Parodied: Carlos skips town after finding a spider in his house.
  • Averted: Carlos isn't particularly panicky.
  • Defied: Alice and Bob remove anything that might scare Carlos.
  • Zig-Zagged: Carlos's fear is very inconsistent.
  • Enforced: The writers wanted to make Carlos relatable to people with anxiety disorders.
  • Lampshaded: "Can someone turn on some calming ambiance? Carlos is coming."
  • Discussed:
    Alice "Carlos always shows an unhealthy amount of fear."
    Bob "Maybe we should get him a therapist."
    Alice "If he can go through a therapy meeting without a panic attack."
  • Invoked: A childhood trauma caused by Emperor Evulz caused Carlos to become the Nervous Wreck he is today.
  • Exploited: Emperor Evulz fills his lair with things that Carlos is afraid of.
  • Played For Laughs: Carlos's fears cause him to be the butt of the joke.
  • Played For Drama: Carlos falls into depression, because his fears prevent him from living a happy life.
  • Played For Horror: Carlos kills everyone around him out of paranoia that they'll kill him first.
  • Implied: Alice and Bob don't take Carlos on their adventures, because they think it will scare him.
  • Deconstructed: Carlos's fears prevent him from properly interacting with his peers. He becomes lonely and jaded as a result.
  • Reconstructed: Once everyone learns of Carlos's situation, they sympathize with him.
